US justice has caught two “violent” bitcoin thieves. The US Department of Justice announced on Friday the unsealing of an indictment against Dominic Pineda and Shon Morgan, both 21 years old. The two young criminals, who were arrested last Thursday in the state of Virginia, United States, had hatched a plan to steal tens of millions of dollars in Bitcoin. It was without counting on the FBI to meddle in their little affair.

According to the US Department of Justice, the two young thieves participated in a violent plan to break into a family’s home in the middle of the night. They then planned to force locals to provide them with a code they believed to be access to tens of millions of dollars in Bitcoin. Also according to the ministry, the plan took place from May 18 to 24, 2020.

The two thieves aimed to “breaking into a house in Irvington and stealing cryptocurrency money from its residents.” At the time, BVitcoin was then trading at around $10,000 per coin and peaking at an all-time high of $68,892 the following year. Today, Bitcoin is in freefall and has fallen below the $19,000 mark.

The two young thieves are charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, according to Hobbs Law, which defines theft as the act of “unlawfully taking a person’s property by means of actual or threatened force”. They both risk up to 20 years in prison.
