Blade Runner will have a series on Amazon Prime Video

In 2017 it hit theaters blade runner 2049a film that intended to continue the narrative of the 1982 original directed by Ridley Scott and that many came to think that it would become a real sacrilege against the memory of the classic starring Harrison Ford. But look where Denis Villeneuve’s work was so good, that it has already been accepted as canon within the franchise.

Prime Video goes strong again

The fact is that just a few days ago it was confirmed that Prime Video is working on the development of a new series based on the universe that the first two films describe to us and that, to continue the tradition, will not stop at any of the years in which they take place. For starters, the title is going to change and become known as blade runner 2099that is to say that if the year is faithful to the one that will take place in fiction (which we do not doubt), the story advances 50 years to the dawn of the 22nd century.

That is why we are left with the doubt of knowing how the protagonists of the first two films will live (if they do) to tell it. On the one hand Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford, and on the other K/ Joe, who is played by Ryan Gosling… although we are very afraid that there is no possibility of seeing them on screen beyond the references required by the script and the occasional memory (computer generated, clearly) that the inhabitants of that dystopian Earth can draw on.

Be that as it may, what is confirmed is that Ridley Scott will be behind the cameras, not so much as a director (hopefully), but watching from his position as executive producer and ensuring that the good name and memory of the two previous films are respected. Of course, the script will be in charge of Silka Luisa (Shining Girls), also an executive producer who regularly works with the British director.

Do you know where the classic comes from?

bladerunner It was released in theaters in 1982, at a time when science fiction had taken an important leap in terms of technological means. It was already possible to make real stories that had been written for many years, as is the case of the story by Philip K. Dick on which the script for Ridley Scott’s work is inspired: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? published in the year 1968.

Blader Runner 2049

Although the original book set the action in 1999, Ridley Scott took the license to take it a little further, specifically 20 years in the future until 2019, to a dystopian city of Los Angeles in which the Tyrell Corporation manufactures so-called replicants, biodesigned entities with the idea of working in space colonies where they can survive better than humans themselves and, of course, are expendable. Four of them, returning from one of their destinations, escape so they will send Agent Deckard to capture them.

What is, at the moment, an unknown, is to know in which characters and in which scenarios it will take place. blade runner 2099. Do you have any theory?
