Since December 7, 2021, the French authorities have authorized the use of Wi-Fi 6E, the new wireless network standard, in the internet boxes of the main operators in the territory, namely Orange, Bouygues Telecom, SFR and Free. Until now, no box took advantage of it. The first rumors, however, ensure that the Livebox 6, the next box from Orange, will ship Wi-Fi 6 and 6E compatibility, but the device is not yet official.

However, a Bouygues Telecom customer who had just taken out a top-of-the-range Internet/TV subscription has just the pleasant surprise of receiving a Bbox Ultym compatible with the latest standard. It is actually an evolution of the Wi-Fi 6 model as revealed by the serial number of the device: Bbox Wi-Fi 6 5688b-V2. As you will have understood, it is the V2 which is important here.

Note that Bouygues Telecom has not yet formalized the existence of this Bbox Ultym 2.0. There is nothing surprising, however, since the operator has a habit of randomly distributing new boxes to its customers, in order to carry out a soft launch and feedback in case of problems. Once any bugs have been fixed and the performance is there, the operator formalizes the integration of this new box into its range.

In other words, do not try to request this Wi-Fi 6E compatible Ultym box from Bouygues Telecom, the sales teams not having the authorization to satisfy your request for the moment. As a reminder, Wi-Fi 6E is the latest standard of the WiFi Alliance. It is actually an evolution of Wi-Fi 6, since Wi-Fi 6E shows only one difference, but of size: the possibility of exploiting the 6 GHz band, in addition to the classic 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.

Concretely, Wi-Fi 6E will allow you to benefit from a better speed, of the order of 30% compared to Wi-Fi 6. In addition, latencies will be reduced. Of course, you will need to have a Wi-Fi 6E compatible device to take advantage of the advantages of this new standard, such as this Bbox Ultym, or even on the smartphone side the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 or the Xiaomi Mi 11 and Mi 11 Ultra.
