At the launch of the AI Innovation Lab, which will be in Barcelona, the technological subsidiary of the banking entity, CaixaBank Tech, will have special weight, opened in 2021 to give a boost to the group’s innovation in terms of technology. There is a team specialized in the application of AI to the financial sector, and it also has a Center of Excellence focused on innovating in this field.

The laboratory will work in coordination with the AI ​​R&D hub that Microsoft also has in Barcelona, ​​and which has a staff made up of a hundred developers, data scientists and machine learning specialists.

The activity of the AI ​​Innovation Lab will focus on developing prototypes, proofs of concept and use cases for explore the changes that the application of the different Artificial Intelligence technologies have caused, and will cause, in financial services. Among the first joint innovation projects that Caixabank and Microsoft will work on in the laboratory are those related to the improvement of Artificial Intelligence models, as well as the incorporation of AI into daily activities and projects.

These initiatives may focus on improving process efficiency, customer experience or cybersecurity. Among them will be the creation of a virtual assistant that allows employees and backoffice units to help reduce the number of activities with less added value and use the time they save to manage their main activities. They also plan to explore the improvement of the user interfaces of the systems so that customers and employees of the bank can communicate through natural language and without using menus.

Apart from this, both companies will work in the laboratory in the creation of metaverses, that is, interactive virtual environments that offer immersive experiences, in order to improve the experience of customers and employees. Also to implement hybrid work scenarios. Among its possible applications is the creation of an interaction channel to extend the customer experience, as well as the creation of internal collaboration models in virtual offices. In addition, they can be used to facilitate the incorporation of new workers to the entity and to facilitate the development of the skills that the workforce has.

Caixabank and Microsoft are also going to define several training itineraries for the business and technical areas of the banking entity. Among them will be the AI ​​Business School for Financial Service, a program to provide strategic knowledge on the application of AI to financial services. They will also reinforce technical training in cloud, security, AI and data management.
