Call of Duty will also be available on PlayStation Plus for 10 years if Microsoft buys Activision

We now know that, as part of the negotiations for the takeover of Activision-Blizzard, Microsoft offered Sony a 10-year agreement ensuring it would keep Call of Duty on PlayStation. Another clause of this contract could interest players: the most popular FPS in the world will also be available on PlayStation Plus.

The announcement of the takeover of Activision-Blizzard by Microsoft has definitely sown discord between the Redmond firm and Sony. While the console war finally seemed to be a thing of the past, the Japanese manufacturer is now going out of its way to prevent the transaction from succeeding. Still, it’s not Microsoft’s fault for trying to smooth over its relationship with its rival.

We now know that the crux of the problem turns out to be Call of Duty, which Sony is afraid of seeing exclusively on Xbox and PC. A few days ago, we learned that the green team tried to show their credentials by offering an agreement to Sony, namely the obligation to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation for at least 10 years. Today, Bloomberg provided a major clarification regarding this deal.

Microsoft wants Call of Duty to be on PlayStation Plus too

Indeed, according to our American colleagues, Microsoft has even gone further in its proposal since the company also wants Call of Duty to join the PlayStation Plus catalog. The media does not specify whether the agreement provides that each new opus is available from the day of its release. However, since Xbox Game Pass usually offers exclusives from day one, it seems very likely that the same will apply to Call of Duty on PlayStation Plus, otherwise this agreement would not be of much interest to Sony.

This is thus a major proposal for the Japanese firm, on the one hand because it would allow it to face the current market leader in video game catalogs by subscription, and on the other hand, because it would lead to a change in its policy regarding availability on PlayStation Plus. As a reminder, Sony still refuses to release its headlines on its catalog on the first day.
