Careful! Some WD SSDs cause blue screens in Windows

The users of the SN850 SSDX from WD have reported a series of failures in their computers that, although they are not catastrophic, are indeed a nuisance. Since you have experienced system crashes or what are called blue screens. Is there a solution for it or, on the contrary, is it an irreparable hardware defect? Has the manufacturer responded to this problem? Let’s see

There is nothing more annoying than a sudden BSOD, since at that moment it means that everything you are doing is lost. Luckily things are not like before and the applications keep what you are doing continuously. However, the problem is more serious when the cause is the hardware, since it not only marks a malfunction of the same hello, but much more serious problems that can affect the rest of the PC. Despite this, a good part of the hardware errors are from the drivers or the firmware, rather than from a malfunction on the part of the component.

WD Black SN850X SSDs cause blue screens, is it dangerous?

Certain Windows users are experiencing blue screen issues for no apparent reason and no explanation, or at least initially. However, it seems that some of these users have an element in common in their fish, which would be the use of a SD WD Black SN850X with one terabyte of capacity. The cause would be several errors caused by the driver of said solid-state drive discovered after a review in the Windows error log. It should also be noted that both the firmware of the unit and its drivers were updated to date.

A potential explanation for the problem would be that the generic Windows driver would not get along with this SSD drive, which would cause the so-called blue screens or system hangs. This is known from the fact that some users have tried using a different driver and with that they have solved the problem.

Therefore, we can conclude that it is an error in version 2H33 of Windows 11 and not in SN850x itself, since it does not affect other operating systems or versions of the Microsoft operating system. The driver used as a patch is the following: 64 bit Micron NVMe driver v2.1.19.0 WHQL. In case you want to look for it to try this solution.

What is the official answer?

As for the official respect of WD, today they plan to release a new firmware that will fix the problem permanently and avoid the fateful BSOD. So it is not a serious problem that renders the drive useless or breaks the computer, but if you have hung up as a Windows 11 user and you have a WD SN850X at least you already know what it is.

Our advice is to stay tuned for manufacturer updates and update drivers from the manufacturer when they are released by Western Digital.
