Carlos García de Alba seeks to increase agricultural and fishing exports in Italy

Carlos Garcia de Alba, Ambassador of Mexico in Italy, has traveled the entire peninsula from north to south and from the Adriatic Sea to the Tyrrhenian with the clear and cemented objective of being a bridge that unites both countries for cultural, economic, academic, sports and cultural growth.

Two years after arriving in Italy, the 35-year-old diplomat feels satisfied with the achievements he presented to the Senate of the Mexican Republic and that they have been running with the help of their team from the Mexico’s embassy.

“The greatest satisfaction is that many are being fulfilled, that’s when I said we will seek to increase exports from Mexico to Italy. We are finding niches to increase Mexican exports in specific products, such as agriculture and fishing; the first tuna export was made, Italy’s investment in Mexico is increasing and on many occasions due to specific intervention by the embassy, ”he explained.

What are the most important exchanges that are taking place between Mexico and Italy?

“Manufacturing and metalworking are two very strong branches for Italians, I have also sought to promote Mexican investment in Italy, it is taking place, it is important that the economic relationship is a round trip.

“I proposed in the Senate the creation of the Chamber of Commerce. Here we go, the Mexico-Italy Economic Association already exists, because I believe that we must build the Mexico system in Italy, we must have a transversal approach, that does not discriminate any type of link or nexus, “he said.

Achievements such as the signing of the memorandum agreement between the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM) and the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), the Economic Association of Mexico in Italy, the two restitutions of archaeological assets, the mental health portal, the parade of Catrinas in the center of Rome have been part of the successes of the Mexican Embassy during 2021.

This year, the G20 summit was held in different regions of Italy and Mexico not only as a participant, but as a protagonist, making its voice felt on the issues of vaccination, migration and global warming.

“With a very persistent message, on very clear issues in which we were forceful, one that Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard himself repeated: vaccines for everyone, that was a constant speech from Mexico in the G20, starting from a production diagnosis, that no longer looks so insufficient, rather it is a problem of unequal distribution of vaccines, “said the ambassador.

On the issue of economic support to emerging countries to stop global warming, García de Alba said that “a clear leadership role was played and in this the Sherpa, Ambassador Carmen Moreno and Councilor Jennifer Feller had a lot to do with being important leading voice of emerging countries. He was an outstanding, respected and effective voice ”.

How was the issue of migration perceived at the G20?

“I will even say that it was Mexico that raised the issue, we cannot continue to ignore, diminishing the importance, the seriousness of the migratory phenomenon. The specific accent of Mexico was not only to pay attention, but to attack the roots,” he explained.

Garcia de Alba does not stop, hopes next week to look at the horizon from the shores of Malta, where the Training Ship of the Mexican Navy ‘Cuauhtémoc’, waving the Mexican flag, to close 2021 with a great learning, and start 2022 with the organization of the hundred years of the Embassy of Mexico in Italy.

“Next year we have the sixth meeting of the Mexico-Italy binational Commission that is being considered in Mexico City, it has to be a high-level meeting headed by the foreign ministers, accompanied by a large business delegation.

“We have the centenary of the embassy, which has to be an exercise in historical memory, as well as cultural and artistic projection. There are several events scheduled, from an exhibition of photographs and historical documents paying homage to Adamo Boari, ‘the Mexican from Ferrara’, continuing to bring Italian investment to Mexico, we bring a very important project such as the Fincantieri project, which can be of great strategic scope, and if it can be done, it will be a detonator not only for Yucatan and Mexico, it would be the largest shipyard in Latin America ”, concluded the diplomat.
