CES 2022 could be canceled: mass exodus for fear of Omicron

Although everyone is optimistic for CES 2022 when it comes to operators and organizers, the companies and the press that have gathered at the event are not. Ómicron is already stalking the United States and the variant is so contagious that Biden has enacted a series of extraordinary measures. Is it the advance of the closing of CES 2022 by Ómicron?

Joe Biden, president-elect of the United States is currently working to stop this variant throughout the country and for this, two days ago he launched a series of measures that could be summarized as follows:

  • 500 million tests for domestic use.
  • Support to hospitals with medical personnel with 1000 military and nurses or paramedics.
  • Greater vaccination spaces.

In addition, the president sent a message of tranquility to the citizens:

We should all be worried about Omicron, but don’t panic. If you are fully vaccinated you are very protected.

The problem is that curiously despite arriving later than Europe, the Omicron variant already represents a 73% of the country’s cases. And what does all this have to do with hardware? Well, given the situation described on these lines, companies have had a panic attack and this implies that the largest event in the world, CES 2022, may be canceled by Ómicron.

Is it serious enough to cancel it?

Companies are protectionist, like the press, so seeing the impact in just one week and with the latest forecasts of an increase in infections, many have already started to remove their stands after almost a month of work in Las Vegas, others have already they have gone straight away. Companies of what caliber? Well, the list is not exactly short and as the hours go by it is increasing, so it is difficult to give a specific number or list, but for now we know that they are these:

  • NVIDIA
  • Twitter
  • T Mobile
  • Amazon
  • Goal
  • Pinterest
  • The Verge
  • Engadget
  • Intel
  • AT&T
  • Tiktok
  • Lenovo
  • Alphabet (Google)
  • Waymo

If a company does not want something, it is for its professionals to be infected by a virus that in the worst case could end their lives, and with it a bad advertising campaign that could have as a slogan: Could it have been done better?

What will happen now?

Basically there is a change of plans that could ruin the work of months for the less far-sighted. And it is that everything seemed very optimal to launch this event live as it has always been done, but many of them are working against the clock at the moment because the presentations now have to be recorded.

Others, on the other hand, could stay live at the established times (as long as they respect what was signed with the CES), or directly break them and move the announced presentation dates to other days with the protection of the time necessary to work better in this situation.

We could be facing a very specific case of movement of release dates and even delays. Who will respect the dates given as active and passive? Who will move them and when? Everything is in the air and could explode, we will be vigilant, because there are products and technologies that have to be revealed to meet delivery deadlines, such as Rembrandt, RTX 3090 Ti or the Intel ARC Alchemist for example.
