CGI accelerates its growth strategy in Spain after the acquisition of CMC

CGI intends to accelerate its growth strategy in Spain after the acquisition of the Spanish company CMC last October. With this acquisition, “we make our intention to consolidate our presence in the Spanish market come true, going from approximately 400 professionals to more than 1,600 throughout the country. CGI is now at a critical size that allows us to address all of our clients’ needs and help them accelerate their transformation,” said Jean-Michel Baticle, President and COO of CGI.

The acquisition of CMC is part of CGI’s Build & Buy strategy, which supports the company’s progress by combining organic growth and acquisitions. In fact, and under the umbrella of this strategy, CGI has grown from 1,200 professionals in 1996 to more than 80,000 professionals worldwide, many of which have been integrated into the company through mergers and managed services contracts.

With this operation, CGI will now have a team of more than 2,000 members in Spain, Italy and Latin America, and according to Jaime Hortelano, former president and CEO of CMC, and now responsible for CGI’s operations in Spain, Italy and Latin America, “ CGI, one of the biggest players in the technology industry, now competes in Spain, the fourth largest economy in Europe, with a clear strategy in terms of business and leadership. We are now in a position to offer comprehensive CGI services to our Spanish clients in sectors such as banking and finance, telecommunications, retail, energy and public services, industry and transport, tourism, health and the pharmaceutical sector, as well as to accelerate investments in Spain and grow in this strategic market”.

Likewise, CMC’s clients, which include most of the IBEX 35 companies, will now benefit from CGI’s global scale, deep experience and end-to-end services, ranging from consulting and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) to system integration and managed services.

Spanish clients will also benefit from CMC and CGI’s own portfolio of solutions, which brings together approximately 200 CGI solutions and five CMC solutions. These solutions include Payroll Analytics, Cash Collection, Renewables Management System (RMS), O2.Digital, DKS EAP – Enterprise Analytical Portal and BMS (Building Management System).

The operation carried out in Spain has been carried out thanks to the excellent complementarity of both companies in three fundamental fields: the business model, both from the point of view of its offer and its client portfolio; the culture and values of both organizations and their strong commitment to innovation and attracting and retaining talent.

Regarding this last point and according to Hortelano, “in our business, people are fundamental. With CGI we are able to offer local and international professional opportunities to our current and future members, as well as a stimulating work environment. Company ownership has been one of CGI’s core values as a company since its founding and, in fact, over 80% of CGI’s employees are shareholders. I am delighted to offer this opportunity to CMC employees, as well as other distinct components of CGI’s talent management culture.”
