Cheat for Cyberpunk 2077 on PC: increase FPS with Ray Tracing

It should be noted that currently the Cyberpunk 2077 game does not officially support AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 (FSR 2.0). But, the PotatoOfDoom modding community has made it possible for us to use this technology in the game. It is not optimized, therefore, it is reference data that could vary with a future implementation by CD Projekt Red.

Cyberpunk 2077 does not support FSR 2.0, at the moment

The first thing that stands out is that to integrate FSR 2.0 it is first necessary to have DLSS 2.4 installed. It seems that the mod connects to DLSS by simply changing the custom .dll file. Since DLSS and FSR are similar, what is required is a “simple” translation of DLSS calls to the FSR 2.0 equivalent.

Theoretically, this could be done with any game that supports DLSS. The problem is that most games require manual adjustments in the title itself.

for now, there is no record of the arrival of FSR 2.0 to this game. What is being done is a comparison with this patch that adds AMD technology through NVIDIA DLSS.

For these tests, the game has been executed Cyberpunk 2077 in the 4K, 1440p and 1080p resolutions. Before launching the game it has been updated to the DLSS 2.4 version, necessary to be able to run FSR 2.0, on the other hand. Also, TechPowerUp has uploaded an interesting video with some issues with glare or instability with FSR 2.0. This is because we are “cheating” to run AMD technology.

The tests have been carried out at all times with the NVIDIA RTX 3080 graphics card. We remind you that FSR can be executed on NVIDIA graphics, since it does not require dedicated hardware, but DLSS cannot be executed on AMD graphics, since Tensor Cores are required, only present in NVIDIA RTX.

Seeking to offer the best graphic quality, motion blur, depth of field and some HUD elements have been disabled. Note that Ray Tracing has been enabled at all times.

How to install AMD FSR 2.0?

To do this, we must first download the mod. Then we must follow these simple steps:

  • We extract the file in Cyberpunk 2077 folder so that all three .dll files are in the same folder as the main executable
  • VERY IMPORTANT: run the file “EnableSignaturesOverride.reg” included as administrator
  • We start the game and we go to the graphics options and enable the DLSS configuration
  • The game now will run but with FSR 2.0in reality

This is how Cyberpunk 2077 performs with DLSS 2.4, FSR 1.0 and FSR 2.0

Cyberpunk 2077 performance with Ray Tracing active and without DLSS and FSR has been 24 FPS in 4K resolution, 48 FPS in 1440p resolution and 71 FPS in 1080p resolution

4K RESOLUTION DLSS 2.4 FSR 1.0 FSR 2.0
PERFORMANCE 60fps 66fps 50fps
BALANCED 51fps 53fps 44fps
QUALITY 43fps 45fps 35fps
ULTRA-QUALITY 37fps
RESOLUTION 1440p DLSS 2.4 FSR 1.0 FSR 2.0
PERFORMANCE 97fps 102fps 84fps
BALANCED 86fps 87fps 75fps
QUALITY 75fps 77fps 64fps
ULTRA-QUALITY 65fps
RESOLUTION 108p DLSS 2.4 FSR 1.0 FSR 2.0
PERFORMANCE 116fps 117fps 111fps
BALANCED 110fps 116fps 103fps
QUALITY 103fps 106fps 90fps
ULTRA-QUALITY 94fps

conclusion

Logically, if instead of being a mod that makes certain cheats, the performance could go up quite a bit. Also keep in mind that the visual problems come from being a mod. If CD Projekt Red ends up integrating it natively, we may not have these graphical issues and performance is better.

Something that we do notice is an improvement in graphic quality in FSR 2.0 with respect to the first version of this AMD technology. We should also note that Ray Tracing technology is active in all benchmarks. Without this technology the FPS rate will surely be much higher.
