For a few years now, the urban mobility market has exploded in France as elsewhere. In France, in 2022 there will be no less than one million electric scooters in circulation. Sales have been a hit, especially in 2021, with 908,000 units sold in our country.

Having fully understood how buoyant this market is, many car manufacturers have also decided to embark on urban mobility, whether with scooters or electric bicycles. This is the case of Peugeot, with the eCO1, an electric bike with 120 km of autonomy sold for 2099 €or Harley Davidson with the Serial 1, a luxurious electric bike displayed at 3000 €.

Recently, it was Lidl that caused a sensation with its electric bike at a bargain price of under 1000 €. However, we have just learned this Friday, June 3 that it is the turn of Citroën to enter the electric bicycle market.

After Peugeot, Citroën launches into electric bikes

Indeed, the chevron brand confirmed the thing via a press release published on the press portal openPR. From June 2022, the French manufacturer will launch its first Pedelec modelsunderstand e-bikes,”in countries where e-bikes are on the rise”.

Other models will then follow, in particular folding models and Urban E-Bikes. Citroën summarizes the philosophy of its range with the following triptych: Greener, cheaper, faster. For now, no specific model has been presented by the brand. But the problem is not there.

Citroën forgets France for now

In effect, Citroën obviously intends to do without the French market. In its press release, France is not mentioned by the manufacturer. Electric bikes will only be marketed in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. Citroën justifies this decision by the particularly large fleet of electric bicycles in these countries, particularly in Germany which records 8.5 million units in circulation.

At present, it is impossible to know if Citroën intends to offer its electric bikes on French soil. Perhaps the chevron brand prefers take the temperature in markets where electric bikes are a hit before investing more. The future will tell.
