Cobra Kai will say goodbye with the sixth season

Cobra Kai has been, in recent years, a more than pleasant surprise for many, including myself. Since the debut of its first seasons, as part of the failed YouTube Originals project, and especially since it made the leap to Netflix, its creators have been able to combine all the elements in the appropriate way to create a simple series, without great pretensions, but one that He has managed to hook his legion of followers.

One of his greatest achievements has undoubtedly been achieving a tremendously heterogeneous audience in terms of age. From those of us who let ourselves be hooked by the experiences of a Daniel LaRusso who had recently arrived in California from New Jersey, as kids in the eighties, to young people today who knew little or nothing about the original films, but who have connected with the story of the main protagonists of the series, Miguel, Samantha, Robby, “Halcón” and others have written an intergenerational story that has been welcomed by the audience like hot cakes.

Thus, what began as a project aimed mainly at the nostalgia of generations X and Y, eager to know what had become of the lives of LaRusso and Lawrence, roles for which he evidently brought back Ralph Macchio and William Zabka (who also of protagonists are also producers of the series), has been growing, recovering the rest of the protagonists of the three original films (I do not include, of course, nor The New Karate Kid, in which a very young and still almost unknown Hilary Swank took over by Macchio, not even the most recent, starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan) and giving us (well, in exchange for Netflix’s monthly fee) some memorable moments.

The most recent season, the fifth, premiered in September of last year and of course, since then we have been waiting to find out the release date of the next one. What we did not expect was that The sixth will be the last season of Cobra Kaias confirmed by Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald, showrunners of the series, through a joint statement which has been posted on the series’ Twitter account.

As stated in said text, from the beginning they were very clear about the situation in which they wanted “El Valle” to remain at the end of the series and, after the evolution of all the characters during the first five seasons, it seems that this destiny It is already close, although the creators promise that the farewell will be the best of all the Cobra Kai seasons. They play, in their favor, with the trick of being able to close it as they wish, since it does not seem that Netflix had anything to do with this decision. On the contrary, it is likely that he regrets it as much as the fans of the series are already doing, since it is one of his most successful productions.

However, being used to seeing successful shows stretched and stretched until they become just a shadow of their original selves (what makes you think I’m talking about The Simpsons?), it’s actually good news that a show is leaving. to close in this way, in style, with the creators exercising tight control over the content and, consequently, providing the followers with an ending that lives up to all the way traveled up to that moment.
