“Companies want storage products to be smart and cloud like”

Data management in companies that are tackling their digital transformation, and in those that are about to take the step, or have already passed, to the cloud, is vital for its proper functioning and management. That’s why they need modern data services tailored to their needs. We spoke with Adela de Toledo, Country Manager of Pure Storage for Spain and Portugalabout what your company can offer to companies to solve all their problems in terms of data management and handling, specifically its Pure Fusion and Portworx Data Services.

[MCPRO] What steps are you going to take to establish yourself as a modern data service provider?

[Adela de Toledo] Indeed, Pure Storage configures itself as a modern data service provider, and what it does is, first of all, gather the most important trends in the market, such as the cloud, cloud-native applications and infrastructure modernization, to create a strategy focused on deliver a unified cloud acquisition and operation model across all data storage environments and use cases.

Secondly, another important point of the strategy is to enable containerized cloud-native applications, and the third point is to drive infrastructure modernization with a focus on the “all-flash” future that modern applications demand.

[MCPRO] What can a product like Pure Fusion provide companies?

[Adela de Toledo] Well, it can provide them with what society asks of us, what companies ask of us and what we also consider as modern data services. First of all, an invisible hardware. An infrastructure that is transparent to the user, where any type of data and any type of service can be consumed.

On the other hand, what the market demands is that these data services are fully scalable. That they have no limits, and that they are cloudlike. That is, they work anywhere in a similar way to how cloud services work. Finally, they also demand, and can be provided with, services that are instantaneous. This refers to resources that are delivered in seconds or minutes.

They also want the product to be intelligent, that is, to have dynamic workload management, and to be controlled and directed by artificial intelligence, which allows them to be managed automatically based on how the applications and their use are reacting. And lastly, let them be cloud likethat is, that they can be consumed as a service, and that they are affordable in terms of cost.

[MCPRO] What needs do companies that are already modernized or those that have a digital transformation process have that we can consider as advanced in terms of storage?

[Adela de Toledo] Companies want storage products to be intelligent, that is, to have dynamic workload management, and to be controlled and directed by artificial intelligence, allowing them to be managed automatically based on how applications and their use are reacting. And that they are “cloud like”, that is, that they can be consumed as a service, and that they are affordable in terms of cost.

Ultimately, they need to have infrastructure as a service based more on self-service selection in classes and policies, rather than as previously, with infrastructure and infrastructure management much more based on manual intervention and fixed costs.

This is what we see as a trend in the market and what we see as a modern data service, what our technology and our strategy is about.

[MCPRO] Let’s talk about Portworx Data Services: how can these new services make managing modern applications in the cloud easier?

[Adela de Toledo] Well, for one thing, Portworx Data Services is the industry’s first database as a service for Kubernetes. It is a single service that allows you to quickly run any type of database in any cloud, and at a low cost. Also note that most companies need a single service that allows them to run this type of database.

Other facilities offered in terms of managing modern applications in the cloud is automated database management, with which they can solve all kinds of problems. And do it at the touch of a button.

Apart from this, with Portworx Data Services, DevOps engineers can develop all Kubernetes applications from a very broad catalog, with options ranging from sql to query to streaming. In addition, everything under complete automation from the first day of its operations.
