Correos calls a strike on Black Friday: they ask to raise wages and drop to 35 hours a week

According to an official statement from the union, the General Confederation of Labor – CGT, a strike has been called for the Post Office workers that will coincide with one of the most important dates for retail: the black friday. According to the organizers, the main reason is the «impossibility of advancing in the negotiation of the next Post Office Collective Agreement to include improvements in working conditions and a quality public postal service«. The strike has been called by the CGT, LAB, ESK, ELA, SiPcte, Intersindical Valenciana and CNT unions.

Within the negotiations of the collective salary is increase in workers’ wages. CNT indicates that inflation has produced a “huge loss of purchasing power, around 20% (for the workforce) and 25% (for the civil service)”being all above the SMI.

Through the negotiation of the IV Collective Agreement, the union hopes that aspects such as «Salary, working hours, conciliation and occupational health». Likewise, the union criticizes that the negotiations with the employers are “full of ups and downs”» and reject some proposals such as “the intention of introducing new modalities of the working day and, specifically, the split shift”.

Among the demands of the protest table with which the negotiation of the next Agreement has been faced and which represent the “heart” of the calendar of mobilizations and strikes, the following stand out:

  • The inclusion of the salary review clause to link salaries to the CPI.
  • The establishment of the 35 hours per week.
  • The actual coverage of all structural plazas.
  • The recovery of the tens of thousands of jobs “lost so far this century.”

In turn, the convening organizations also include demands of an institutional nature such as the increase in the budget item for the provision of the Universal Postal Service (SPU) -which has been cut year after year until it falls to the current 110 million- and the inclusion of Correos staff in the Basic Statute of Public Employees (EBEP).
