CORSAIR HS65 Wireless, review of these wireless headphones

For the rest, it should be noted that they have a very light design with only 275 grams, with an adjustable headband and ear cups large enough to surround the entire ear. The earmuff covers are made of synthetic leather on the outside but fabric on the inside, insulating noise but letting it breathe so you don’t feel too hot after prolonged use.

Finally, we must mention what is surely one of the most interesting features of these HS65 Wireless, and that is that in addition to having technology Dolby Surround 7.1 have SoundID from Sonarworks, a system that will allow us to adjust the audio according to our preferences and that we will see in depth in this analysis.

Unboxing and external analysis

As is customary in this manufacturer, the headphones are packed in a black and yellow semi-rigid cardboard box, on the front of which we can see an image of the device accompanied by the brand, model, and its main outstanding characteristics.

On the back we find a sketch differentiating the most important parts of the device, accompanied by a description in several languages. The sides, as always, are adorned with a summary of some of the features.

We open the box at the top and we find the headphones protected by an “egg cup” type cardboard, but first of all let’s start by looking at the accessories. In addition to the HS65 Wireless themselves, two pamphlets (warranty and safety), a charging cable, and the USB receiver are included.

The charging cable is 1.8 meters long, is USB-A to USB-C, and does not have any mesh.

The 2.4 GHz RF USB Receiver is the size of a pen drive, is USB 2.0, and is adorned with a metal insert to hold it securely when putting it on and taking it off. It is identical to the one that CORSAIR uses in other headphones of the brand; the logo will light up white when connected, and flashing red if the receiver is connected but can’t find the headphones.

Now yes, we are going to see the CORSAIR HS65 Wireless, which as you can see from the start have a fairly standard shape, with a circumaural design for the earmuffs and a normal headband.

Both ear cups can be rotated just over 90 degrees, allowing for a better fit for all head types. In the outer zone they have a kind of grid with the CORSAIR logo; There’s no lighting on these headphones, by the way.

Like good wireless headphones, all the controls are found on the ear cups themselves. On the left side we have the USB-C charging port, the digital volume wheel and a button to mute the microphone.

In the right earphone what we have are the power button, a status indicator LED and another button to use them in Bluetooth mode.

As we said before, the inside of the earmuffs, which is quite soft and comfortable, is made of fabric, while the outside is made of synthetic leather.

The headband is adorned on the top with the name of the manufacturer, and on the inside it is padded, in this case with synthetic leather only.

The construction of the headband consists of an axis on which the earmuffs can rotate (as we have said before, a little more than 90 degrees), and then an extendable headband that allows the position and size to be adjusted according to our head.

By the way, that grill on the outside of the earmuffs is merely decorative (it’s not even a grill as such). The design is circumaural (they are placed around the ear and not above) closed.

We need to see the microphone, located in the left earmuff. It is of the flexible rod type, and it has the particularity that if you lift it all the way there is a small stop that, if you exceed it, the microphone will automatically mute without pressing the button. CORSAIR returns with this to the design of the VOID that gave such good results in its day.

The rod is flexible, but it takes a bit to stay in the position we want because it tends to return to its natural shape. Also, if you turn it too far inwards so that the mic head is in front of your mouth, if you lift it up you will hit the mic on the temple.

Given how the CORSAIR HS65 Wireless are on the outside, let’s see how they work.

Configuration with CORSAIR iCUE

As always, to make these headphones work with the software we must make sure that we have the latest version of iCUE available. Both the USB receiver and headphones will appear once connected and turned on.

iCUE

There is not much to configure on the receiver: we will simply see that they are paired with the HS65 Wireless in the first tab and we can force the synchronization again if we need to, while in the configuration tab we can only update the firmware.

As for the headphones themselves, in the first configuration tab it will offer us to install NVIDIA Broadcast, software optimized for live broadcasts. We are not going to go into the options for this because we are getting a bit out of it, but it is good to know that they are prepared to work in conjunction with this NVIDIA software.

iCUE

In the Equalizer tab, we have just that, an equalizer. CORSAIR includes several pre-configured profiles, but of course we can configure our own by hand. Also, at the bottom left we have sliders for the microphone volume, self perception, and a button to activate and deactivate the surround mode.

iCUE

We are going to skip the next option to leave it for last, and we are going to Device Settings. Here we can update the firmware, see the battery status, configure the automatic shutdown, select if we want to see the battery icon in the notification bar, select if we want to listen to voice commands (that a voice tells us “Mic off » when we mute the microphone, etc.) and configure the microphone amplification if we want.

iCUE

Now yes, in the “Customization of the identifier” option is where we can configure Sound ID, and as soon as we press it, an assistant will appear to guide us through the process.

iCUE

The wizard, which will not take us more than a couple of minutes to complete, will show us different music tracks (which we will select), and we will have to mark which of the options best suits our preferences.

In the end, our custom audio profile (which, mind you, replaces the equalizer) will have been created. The wizard will allow us to see the difference between having it activated or not, and we have to tell you that the difference is abysmal, although the result will obviously depend on what each user has selected according to their preferences during the wizard.

Testing the HS65 Wireless

The CORSAIR HS65 Wireless is a headset that, at first glance, seems quite flimsy due to its very light weight. However, once you have been wearing them for a while, you realize that they are not flimsy at all, they are simply light and flexible, something that contributes to providing excellent comfort when using them, especially for prolonged periods of time.

They fit perfectly on any head size and shape, and because the ear cushions are relatively thin in the sense that they leave plenty of room for the ear, they’re very comfortable right out of the box. Plus, because they’re so lightweight, it’s easy to forget you’re wearing them.

However, one drawback in terms of comfort is the one that we have already mentioned before: if you bend the microphone rod so that the head is in front of your mouth and lift the rod, you will hit your temple with it. It also depends a bit on your head size, because if you don’t extend the headband too much to enlarge the headphones, this won’t happen to you (but in our case, we’re a bit stubborn and we do have to extend the headband, it does happen to us ).

During our tests, we have been using the HS65 Wireless for a full work day, which means that we have spent more than 10 hours with them on, only taking them off from time to time (for example to go out to eat). During this prolonged time, the headphones have not bothered us at any time, although it is true that we have noticed some heat in the ears (but since it is winter, we cannot assess whether this will be a problem when it is hotter, in summer). ).

The sound produced by these HS65 Wireless is quite decent, without being excellent. The treble and midrange tones are clear and crisp, even more so if you’ve enriched them with SoundID’s custom equalization, although they are a bit weak in the low tones, something that is quite common in wireless headphones since they don’t have a dedicated subwoofer. In any case, the sound is very good, including the surround sound mode.

In terms of battery life, we didn’t have to recharge it until the third day of use, and we estimate that we’ll have spent more or less 25 hours using them, so it’s even better than what CORSAIR said in the technical specifications. Finally, the microphone is omnidirectional and does not have noise cancellation, so it works correctly, but be careful because all the ambient noise will slip into your conversations.

Conclusion and verdict

The new CORSAIR HS65 Wireless are wireless headphones that if they stand out for something is their excellent comfort, since they are so light and flexible that they will fit perfectly on any type and size of head, making you quickly forget that you are wearing them. In addition to this, they also stand out for their excellent battery life, allowing you to use them throughout the day without having to worry about being left lying around at any time.

CORSAIR HS65 Wireless

They are capable of delivering quite good sound quality, and if you are one of those who like surround sound, then thanks to Dolby Surround 7.1 technology you will have just what you want. Plus, they’re highly customizable thanks to SoundID technology, which lets you create a custom EQ profile so your audio sounds exactly the way you like it… what more could you ask for?

Well, by asking, we could ask that they be cheap. The CORSAIR HS65 Wireless have a price tag of €139.99, so of course they are not cheap, but we must admit that they are not expensive if we compare them with other wireless models of the competition, so we cannot consider their price a catch, honestly.

For all these reasons, we believe that they are deserving of our Gold award, undoubtedly highlighting their design, which we consider to be their strong point.
