Counter Strike 2 could be a reality, the new NVIDIA drivers point to it

The latest NVIDIA drivers contain a direct reference to Counter Strike 2, a very interesting detail that has not gone unnoticed and that, as you can imagine, has given rise to great speculation. Right now we don’t have more information than the one I just gave you, so we are going to focus on it and explain what that reference implies and what we can make clear.

First of all, it is important to note that numerous references found in NVIDIA drivers have, in the end, become a first leak of something that actually ended up reaching the market. One of the most recent examples we have in the version of Returnal for PC. However, we must also make it clear that these references have not always become something real, and that therefore this reference does not have absolute validity.

A thorough inspection of the drivers has revealed two possible executables that point to Counter Strike 2, one called “CSGO2.exe” and another who identifies himself as “CS2.exe”. This can mean many things, perhaps Valve has been immersed in two different projects, or it may simply have not settled on one of those two names. The truth is that I would not be surprised if Counter Strike 2 ended up being called Counter Strike: Global Offensive 2, since in the end the tagline “GO” has become enormously popular.

I’m not sure if we can wait a complete remake of the game updated to the Source Engine 2 graphic engine, or if, on the contrary, this new title will be rather a minor updatewith improvements focused mainly on the gameplay and with an affordable graphic finish even for less powerful computers.

Considering the role that Counter Strike plays in the world of electronic sports and competitive gaming, the truth is that I lean more in favor of the second option, since in the end triggering the requirements would be counterproductive because it would prevent many players from enjoying that hypothetical new installment.

We will be attentive to see how this information evolves, although we must bear in mind that nothing is confirmed yet, and that this leak does not mean that Valve is going to launch Counter Strike 2 in the short term, it’s just a possibility, and the truth is that it makes a lot of sense, especially considering the time that CS:GO Source has behind him. If you’re curious about what that second part could look like, I remind you that last year we saw a mod made by a fan that perfectly illustrated what Counter Strike 2 could be like.
