Cowboys & Aliens: Rights regained, creator has “big plans” for a sequel

Exactly 10 years have passed since the arrival of Cowboys & Aliens, the sci-fi western film directed by the director Jon Favreau which, despite the lack of success at the box office, could sooner or later see the arrival of a sequel.

In spite of the incredible cast present in the film (let’s talk about names like Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell And Paul Dano) the film had a budget of $ 163 million and barely managed to cover production costs, raising $ 174 million at the global box office.

However, the property rights have now returned to the original creator of the comic, Scott Mitchell, who explained that he has “big plans” for a new project.

The creator of Cowboys & Aliens wants to make a sequel to the film

Speaking in a recent interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Mitchell shared his take on what he felt led to the first film’s defeat.

“It’s interesting: when it debuted at San Diego Comic-Con, the reviews of Variety he was born in The Hollywood Reporter they have been very positive. But the articles that came out later talked about the box office and, because it didn’t do better at the box office, the reviews were different, which I don’t think is very fair. “

The author has also pointed the finger at Universal, guilty of a deficient micromanagement against the film:

“Universal announced the release date of the film without talking to DreamWorks. If everything was friendly, it would have moved to the next summer (2012) because that way we could get a lot of merchandising. It’s only been 11 months without a Christmas in between to do something. They just weren’t working on things together and people were pointing their hands in different directions. It had its effect. “

And for the Cowboys & Aliens sequel, here’s what it said:

“We spoke to investors about a new film. It can’t be based on any of the things that came before, so we have to go back to the original material or create new original material. “
