Create your own “Who wants to be a millionaire” to play on the computer

PowerPoint is a much more complete application than many users think and offers us a large number of tools to create all kinds of presentations, presentations that invite the user to interact. If we want to create our own Who wants to be a millionaire to play with our friends and family, then we will show you all the steps to create the structure.

Create a new document

PowerPoint puts at our disposal a large number of templates of all kinds, templates among which, unfortunately, we don’t find any that allow us to take advantage of a structure to create a quiz with questions and answers. On the internet we can find already created files, however, most of them include macros, so it is not recommended to use and edit them since they can include viruses.

Set the questions and answers

Once we have created the blank document, we can also use the predesigned templates that PowerPoint offers us. The first thing we must do is add a text box with the first question. Next, we have created 4 text boxes where we are going to add the possible answers to the question. Finally, we add another text box with the word Next question to advance to the next slide.

Add error slide

In the next step, we need to create a new slide, which we will place at the end of the presentation. This slide will be displayed when the contestant clicks on the wrong answer. On this slide, we can add a large error image that leaves no room for doubt when selecting the wrong answer. We must also add a text box or image that invites us to return to the slide where we were.

Add hit slide

Just as we need to add the slide that will be shown when the player fails the question, we also need to create the slide that will be shown when the player gets the question right. This slide, we must also place it at the end of the presentation. We must add a text box or image that invites us to return to the slide that we have answered correctly to continue with the contest.

Set up the presentation

Once we have created the necessary structure to create the presentation, it is time to link the slides so that, depending on the chosen answer, the correct or error slide is shown and continue with the next question. If we want the creation process to be easier and not take much time, we can always set the correct answer in the same position. This way, we won’t have to make new links for each question.

The answer to the question: Where was the sailor and scientist Jorge Juan born? it is novel. To indicate to the contestant that they have selected the correct answer, we click on Novelda, we go to the tape Insert and we select Link. Next, we click on Place in this document and select the slide that will be displayed with the correct answer.

With the rest of the invalid answers, we must do the same, but selecting as destination the slide that we have created for the incorrect answers.

After the first slide where we have created the first question, we duplicate the slide to change the questions and answers keeping the links and place it right after the first one. So that, when clicking on Next question, the next slide is displayed, we must select the text, click on Insert > Link, Place of this document and select next slide.

Finally, we need to configure the buttons change answer of the error slide and Continue with the contest of the hit slide. To perform this task, we must resort to macros, a fairly complex section. The easiest solution is to duplicate the hit and miss slides and place them right after each of the slides where the questions are displayed. This way, we can set the Switch Answer button to go back to the previous slide and the Continue Quiz button to show the next slide.
