Creative Sensemore Air, review: wireless earbuds

For the rest, it is a wireless headset that works through Bluetooth 5.2, so obviously they are designed to be associated with a smartphone or similar and be able to take them from one place to another while listening to music. Count on IPX5 certified against sweat (note, this makes them waterproof but not submersible) and, thanks to their ergonomics, makes them ideal for going out with them to play sports.

Finally, it should be noted that they incorporate touch controls on the headphones themselves, and that they are compatible with the Siri and Google Assistant assistants.

Unboxing and external analysis

The Creative Sensemore Air are packed in a hard white cardboard box, on the front of which we can see an image of them together with their charging case and where it only stands out that they are compatible with the brand’s Super SXFI technology. On the back, its main features are highlighted in the form of icons, while on one of the sides we have the contents of the box listed.

The box opens upwards, and inside we find a plastic structure in which the headphones and their charging base are cloistered.

As accessories, Creative includes the usual instruction and warranty booklets, as well as the charging cable (USB-A to USB-C) and two pairs of adapters for the different ear sizes.

Out of the box, here is the set that makes up the Sensemore Air.

Creative Sensemore Air

Let’s look at the charging case first. Black in color and oval in shape, only the brand logo stands out on the outside, although on one of its sides we can see a small slit to help us open it (it has hinges), where there are also three LED status indicators.

On the back, the aforementioned hinge and the USB-C female connector for charging the battery.

When we open it, we can see the two holes to place each of the headphones, with their corresponding connection pins. The name Sensemore also stands out, and if you look closely the central LED has lit up green (it is a battery indicator in this case).

Here you have the pair of headphones. They have a shape designed to fit in the auditory pavilion and remain fixed there without problems, and as we said, they already come with some adapters that we can change (so, we have three sizes in total).

Each of the two headphones have touch control on this circular surface that you can see. It is surrounded by a halo of lighting that is nothing more than a status indicator (for this reason we do not consider it RGB, it will simply blink blue when paired with Bluetooth devices, red when low on battery, etc.). You can also see a small indentation on the side, which is where the microphone is located (each earpiece has one).

On the inside we have the two connectors for the charging pins of the case.

If we remove the ear adapter we can see the 6mm bio-cellulose speaker.

Each of the headphones has its specific place inside the case, and when we put it in, it stays quite well fixed thanks to a magnetic anchor. Also, notice that the LEDs on the sides of the case have turned red, indicating that the headphones are recharging their battery.

Seen how they are from the outside, the time has come to turn them on and put them to the test.

This is how the Creative Sensemore Air work

The first thing we must do to use the headphones is to synchronize them with a smartphone or other Bluetooth audio source, a simple process that has no mystery because as soon as the Sensemore Air is turned on, they go into pairing mode. You just have to look for them in the list of Bluetooth devices of the terminal, and start the pairing as normal.

Although these headphones will work as an audio device without a problem on any Bluetooth device, if we use them with a smartphone or tablet we can also use the Creative App to further configure its operation, in addition to updating its firmware, which is what first that the App offers us as soon as we open it (by the way, it is a really VERY slow process, in our case it took about 15 minutes to update the firmware). Be patient, and make sure the headphones have enough battery life.

Update Firmware

With the updated firmware, we can start to see your configuration. The first thing we come across is an Equalizer, in which we can manually configure the audio behavior of the headphones.

We can also configure the noise cancellation system that these headphones incorporate. Remember: we have the ANC mode (active noise cancellation) to isolate ourselves from outside noise, the deactivated mode that does not work, and the Sensemore mode that what it does is use the microphones of the headphones to transmit everything that happens outside, but with certain enhancements to increase sharpness.

Sensemore and ANC

Finally, we will be able to customize the operation of the touch controls. As you can see, both the right and left earphones have functions with two or three short touches or with one long touch.

Given what the Creative App offers us, the time has come to tell you, subjectively and personally, how these Earbuds-type headphones work. For starters, let’s talk about ergonomics: from the very beginning, we’ve noticed that the headphones fit perfectly in the ears without even having to change the adapters. We tried jumping, running and even moving our heads like headbang (that gesture that we Heavyes make) and they did not move one iota, so we can confirm that, indeed, in this sense they are perfectly suitable to play sports with them.

As for comfort, if you are not used to wearing earbuds, you may notice them too much in your ears or they may even bother you a bit, but it is something that after 10-15 minutes of use you stop noticing because they really weigh quite little and they are very comfortable to use. Creative, you get an A on this one.

In terms of audio performance, the Creative does not disappoint and while this is an ‘in-ear’ headphone in this respect, for listening to music they are more than adequate. They don’t have impressive high-res audio (they’re hardly going to do this with 6mm speakers), but performance is okay, with good low-mids, but a bit weak on the bass and bass. In this, we give it a good, without more.

Finally, we must talk about the Sensemore mode and the ANC, as well as the microphone. Starting with the latter, the communication is quite clear in general terms, although do not expect to be able to hold a conference while you are walking down the street because all the ambient noise slips through the microphones. Now, when you’re the one listening, the ANC mode does help a lot to reduce ambient noise, although don’t think that you’re going to completely isolate yourself from the outside world because it’s not like that; after all, they are Earbuds and not closed circumaural headphones, which do completely isolate you from outside noise. All in all, the ANC technology works great, as does the Sensemore mode, which helps you seamlessly carry on a conversation even without removing your headphones.

Finally (now yes), it is worth mentioning that the manufacturer fulfills what it promised in terms of battery life. With ANC mode active, we spent a little over 7 hours using the headphones until they “complained” that they had little power left, at which point we put them to charge in their case. We were able to make a total of three charges, giving us approximately 25 hours of autonomy in total (always with ANC active).

Conclusion and verdict

With the Sensemore Air, Creative has created some Earbuds that are really good for all kinds of uses you want to give them, especially to play sports with them, and at a price that most can afford since they barely cost €59.99 in the manufacturer’s official store (even on Amazon, which has a €99.99 label, they have a 30% discount coupon that leaves them at the same price).

The Sensemore Air have nothing to envy to other much more expensive models such as Apple Airpods, which literally cost 4 times more. In fact, they are even better because the adjustment is much better to be able to use them in sports activities, and they have the ANC mode that helps a lot to isolate you from outside noise, what more can you ask for?

For all these reasons, we believe that the Creative Sensemore Air deserve our Gold award, as well as our recommendation for its quality / price.
