A new cryptocurrency scam targets internet users. According to Avast, criminals trick Internet users into stealing their bitcoins by promoting a digital currency that does not exist, Amazon Tokens.

Fake ads were designed to “Look like news articles from recognized and reliable media”. Internet users who click on the advertisement, which uses the Amazon logo, are relayed on fake sites that copy the interface of the platform. To convince their targets to invest, hackers claim that investors get a free Amazon Prime membership.
To put to sleep the mistrust of Internet users, criminals rely on a digital currency project under development at Amazon. In February, a job offer posted on Amazon Jobs suggests that the e-commerce giant is working on an alternative cryptocurrency to Bitcoin. However, Amazon Tokens do not currently exist and are in no way related to Amazon.
In fact, the sums invested are fully paid into the pockets of the crooks. To invest in these fictitious tokens, victims must pay popular digital currencies and highly valued, such as Bitcoin, Litecoin or Ethereum. Cryptocurrencies are sent directly to a digital wallet. “The consumer can no longer get his money back and receives nothing in return”, warns Avast.
With this scam, the hackers have already cleared significant benefits. “These new scams are particularly effective and have already grossed over $ 100,000. Over 300 Avast users have been protected from this scam over the past week ”, explains Avast in its press release.
