Cyberkpunk 2077: Keanu Reeves Never Touched CD Projekt Game

CD Projekt RED had always said it during the promotion of the game: Keanu Reeves played Cyberpunk 2077 and he loves the title. Only the truth is quite different. The actor confirmed in a recent interview that he never laid his hands on the Polish studio’s RPG.

Cyberpunk 2077 had many arguments to sell during its promotion phase: the prestigious past of developers with games The witcher, a disproportionate ambition, graphics and an atmosphere to die for, an unprecedented freedom of action, and above all a central character embodied by one of Hollywood’s most bankable actors: Keanu Reeves.

As you know, the result was far from satisfactory, but the avalanche of bugs and problems did not mar Johnny Silverhand’s popularity, the character played by Keanu Reeves, with the players. It must be said that the presence of the actor in the casting of the game was a significant share of in-game promotions and marketing. Starting when the actor took the stage at E3 2019 to announce the game’s release date.

In the months that followed, CD Projekt RED continued to grow on this prestigious partnership. Studio CEO Adam Kicinski has repeatedly assured that Keanu Reeves had played the game and absolutely loved it, enough to reassure players about the quality of the upcoming blockbuster.

No CD Projekt, Keanu Reeves never touched Cyberpunk 2077

Only, the actor gave a completely different version of the facts at the turn of an interview given to our colleagues from The Verge on the occasion of the Game Awards 2021. The interpreter of Neo in The Matrix Resurrections, the next opus of the saga to come to the cinema, told the media that he had never laid his hands on Cyberpunk 2077, content to have watched a few gameplay clips of the title.

Fans quickly spotted this contradiction with the words of the boss of CD Projekt, who has always proclaimed loud and clear that the actor had played the game on multiple occasions. Of course, the situation is nothing serious in itself, but it proves once again how the studio has, let’s put it mildly, clumsily managed its communication around Cyberpunk 2077. Fortunately, the successive patches are starting to bear fruit, the game having climbed back into the top 10 sales on Steam.
