Cyberpunk 2077 triumphs on Steam Deck

In the middle of July of last year, Valve confirmed the rumor (loudly, in recent days) about its portable console, Steam Deck. It’s been a little over a year since then, and a little over half a year since the first units began to reach users who were the first to reserve a unit for them. The bravest, really, because at that time there were many doubts about what, exactly, the Steam portable console would offer.

It is true that from the beginning statements in this regard were quite positive, to the point that a few days after its official announcement, we were able to read some official statements stating that, with the tests carried out up to that moment, Steam Deck could handle the entire Steam catalog. A statement that made me wonder, at that time, if the portable console would be able to move two beasts already present, at that time, in said catalog: Cyberpunk 2077 and Microsoft Flight Simulator.

And to this day, as we can see on Steam, we can say that Valve and I have tied at one, although the match is still being played. And it is that when consulting its files in the store, we see that Cyberpunk 2077 appears as “Playable”, with this file:

While, for its part, Microsoft Flight Simulator is shown as “Not compatible”, after the tests carried out, although it is stated that Valve is working to make it compatible:

I think that, having seen what was seen, it made sense to consider that that statement was, at the very least, overly optimisticsomething that was proven a few months later, when Valve launched the Steam Deck Verified program.

But well, in reality this is not the news, because it has little news, and I do not want it to seem that what I am proposing is something negative. Quite the contrary, I start from the basis of affirming that the fact that Steam Deck is able to move Cyberpunk 2077 with ease speaks very highly of both Valve’s work with its laptop and that carried out by CD Projekt RED on the path of redemption of its controversial triple A. Steam Deck knew how to live up to expectations, and Cyberpunk 2077 has managed to get out of the hole and get very close to what it should have been from the beginning.

And what happens when two stories like these converge? Well, we are faced with a most surprising, relevant and, in my opinion, positive fact. And it is that according to the data published in the official account of the Valve laptop On twitter, Cyberpunk 2077 is the 4th most played game (by total hours) on Steam Deck. It is located behind Vampire Survivors, Elden Ring (another example of the performance that this console is capable of providing) and Stardew Valley.

Obviously, when we talk about playing Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam Deck we must understand that we are not talking about using the most intensive graphic modes, but that is not what you would expect from a device of this type either. We are talking about a system with a seven-inch screen with a resolution of 1,280 x 800 points, and that is supported by a Zen 2 APU of 4 cores / 8 threads between 2.4 and 3.5 gigahertz, with an RDNA 2 GPU with 8 units of calculation and capable of scaling up to 1.6 gigahertz.

What stands out in this story is, without a doubt, so much the great job done by Valve with Steam Deckwho is capable of handling such a demanding title with ease, and who good job done by CD Projekt RED so that Cyberpunk 2077 is quite close to what it should have been in the beginning. It has been said ad nauseam, and it is true, that CD Projekt RED and Hello Games are not comparable, but we can make a clear parallel between Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man’s Sky, which coincidentally is also among the ten most played titles in Steam Deck. Redemption is not always possible, so it is always a joy to be able to witness it. An end? happy.
