D-Link introduces the new D-Link DMS-106XT switch

The firm D-Link has expanded its catalog of network solutions with the new DMS-106XT, a “multi-gigabit” type switch that is equipped with one 10 Gigabit Ethernet port and 5 2.5 Gigabit ports. This configuration is already very interesting, but we cannot overlook the care that the company has put into the design and quality of finishes.

D-Link’s DMS-106XT is built into a aluminum chassis with a trapezoidal design, and features an RGB LED lighting system integrated that gives it a touch of distinction, as we can see in the images that accompany this article. It is intended for small offices, and also for SMEs and advanced users who want to speed up access to their NAS, servers, workstations, streaming services, and more.

As we have anticipated, this switch has a 10 Gigabit LAN connector. This can be used as a link to servers or NAS units or to the network core if it is integrated as an edge switch in a higher level network topology. For its part, the five 2.5 Gigabit ports can be used both for connection to the router and to computers or workstations, where its enormous bandwidth (2,500 Mbos) will offer a remarkable increase in performance with respect to the 1,000 Mbps standard, especially if we work with large files, something common in tasks related to graphic design, rendering and architecture, also in high resolution streaming.

The 2.5G ports are also ideal for deploy Wi-Fi 6 access points equipped with 2.5G ports, a necessary interface to get the most out of them and not create a bottleneck with Gigabit connections. Due to its unmanaged format, it requires no technical knowledge and is fully Plug and Play. The LED lights on the front indicate, according to their color, the speed at which the link has been established (Gigabit, 2.5G or 10G) in each port.

Although the D-Link DMS-106XT is a switch that does not require any type of management, it has an advanced intelligent traffic prioritization mode, Turbo mode, which can be activated via a switch. It enables advanced port-based QoS to prioritize bandwidth to the most demanding devices, and also enables IGMP Snooping to improve the performance of IPTV applications. When we use this mode, the multicolored LED lighting on the front display turns on to give a “gaming” touch.

The care that D-Link has put into the design of the DMS-106XT has not gone unnoticed. this switch has been awarded the Red Dot Design Award. Its chassis is made of a metallic gray aluminum alloy, a material that contributes to heat dissipation and allows totally passive cooling, without fans. The D-LinkDMS-106XT Multigigabit switch is now available with a price of 219 euros.
