DeepUll raises 13 million to advance the sepsis early detection platform

the startup, DeepUlldedicated to the medical diagnosis that develops inexpensive, culture-free diagnostic solutions for the early detection of sepsis and other acute infections, has announced that it has raised 13 million euros in a Series B financing round. The round has been led by new investors Innvestwhich is part of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation -CDTI, and a strategic investor that has not been made public, and has had the participation of existing investors Kurma Partners, Alta Life Sciences, UI Investissement (advised by Mérieux Equity Partners) and Axis Participaciones Empresariales.

DeepUll was born in 2020 to create fast, affordable and accessible diagnostic solutions with a specific focus on culture-free diagnostics in order to detect sepsis even before the onset of symptoms. The company was founded by Jordi Carrera and Rafel Bru, who had previously founded STAT-Dx, which they sold in 2018 to Qiagen. DeepUll will use these funds to further develop its first-in-class sepsis detection platform to market.

Early detection of sepsis is key to improving patient prognosis and reducing mortality. DeepUll’s technology not only aims to identify the infectious agents that cause sepsis in a few hours, but also to provide phenotypic results of antimicrobial susceptibility to reduce the unnecessary use of antimicrobials. It will also use artificial intelligence to provide 24/7 medical decision support at all stages of patient management, from early detection to precise diagnosis and therapeutic orientation.

Jordi Carrera, CEO and co-founder of DeepUll, commented: “The early identification of sepsis is essential for the prognosis of the patient, but the tools available to professionals today are woefully insufficient. Our mission is to change this and this funding will allow us to accelerate our efforts to bring our sepsis detection platform to market. We are grateful to existing investors and very happy to welcome new ones, who strengthen our investor base.”
