A few days ago, we informed you that a hacker had put the data of more than 250 million users of the Deezer music streaming platform up for sale, after a massive hack that occurred in 2019. As a reminder, a hacker managed to break into the servers of one of the company’s suppliers, stealing a lot of personal data.

Among them, we found in particular the first and last names of the users, their dates of birth, their email and IP addresses, their gender, their location data, the date of membership and the unique ID assigned to each account. Only a few days after the disclosure of the data on forums, Deezer has finally acknowledged the existence of the leak.

Deezer starts warning its users

It finally took until the beginning of 2023 for Deezer to confirm the authenticity of the data leak. “ The exposed data includes basic information, such as first and last name, date of birth, email address “Deezer told AFP.

Since then, Deezer has also notified the CNIL, and is now working to warn the 46.2 million users who were affected by the flaw.We are in the process of contacting the users concerned by email to make them aware of the risks of phishing (phishing) and to encourage them to be vigilant. “, explained Deezer in a press release. ” We recommend our users, as a precaution, to change their password “, Continues the platform.

While many gigantic data leaks took place in 2022, it remains to be seen if 2023 will also be riddled with private data security issues. And unfortunately for everyone, data leaks will be very expensive in 2023. We hope that the major digital players will protect themselves better in the future against this type of data theft.
