Differences between the new DJI Mini 3 and the Mini 2. Is it worth the change?

DJI mini 3

DJI has just presented the new version of its most versatile and commercial drone, the DJI Mini. A few months ago we already met a proposal from the same range with the Mini 3 Pro, but if what you were looking for was a drone with DJI quality and the best possible price, then this is what you are looking for. new DJI Mini 3.

Flying in 4K HDR

One of the most outstanding features is the incorporation of a new slightly larger sensor which enables record in 4K format and with HDR. This new high dynamic range feature will allow you to capture videos with more detail, especially in backlighting, this being a section where it could stand out from the DJI Mini 2.

Taking into account the creative interests of drone users, the use of a vertical format camera allows recording videos that fit perfectly with the formats of the social networks of Instagram and Tik Tok, hence this Mini 3 includes a module with 90 degree rotation.

As we mentioned before, the included sensor is larger, and offers larger pixels and an f/1.7 aperture with which to obtain more detail and better lighting in unfavorable conditions.

improved stabilizer

Something that current owners of a Mini 2 will be able to notice is that the stabilizer of the DJI Mini 3 now has much wider rectification anglesallowing image stabilization in conditions with more aggressive movements.

To be exact, the mechanical tilt range controls from -135 degrees before 80 degrees (-110 to 35 on the Mini 2), panning from -30 to 30 degrees (-20 to 20 on the Mini 2) and on rotation from -135 to 45 degrees (-35 to 35 on Mini 2).

You’re going to crash anyway

DJI mini 3

Something that many might be looking for when it comes to make the jump from a Mini 2 to a Mini 3 are the collision systems. Unfortunately the Mini 3, like the Mini 2, only has a lower vision system, so it will not be able to detect obstacles in the front or in the rear area. These two crash systems are only available on the DJI Mini 3 Pro.

Is it worth buying the Mini 3 if you have a Mini 2?

As you may have seen, the main differences are found in the recording quality of the camera. Neither the intelligent modes nor the collision systems have been improved compared to the previous version, so at the level of control and piloting there are no major changes.

However, if you do not have a drone and you are thinking of purchasing one of these two models, opting for the most modern version is a great option since you will record with higher quality and the image will be better stabilized.

If, on the contrary, you already have a Mini 2, making the jump to the Mini 3 would only compensate you if you want to further improve image qualitysince the new sensor and the possibility of recording in HDR will be especially noticeable in the recorded videos.

At the moment, yes, these are all the characteristics that we can see different between one drone and another, so we will have to wait for our video test to be able to buy both models and draw the final conclusions.
