Disney is going to build its own city, would you like to live there?

Disney fans have surely wondered one day how their lives would have turned out if they lived in this family and good-natured universe. This dream will soon become a reality: the entertainment group has announced the creation of its first “residential community”, Cotino.

Walt Disney wanted to develop a “city of the future” called Epcot, to ” experimental prototype of the community of tomorrow “. This project did not succeed, even if the concept influenced the amusement parks and the hotels of the group. The Disney group is taking up the idea with a new activity managed by the unit in charge of attractions: called “Storyliving by Disney”, its mission is to develop residential communities.

Living in the Disney universe

In other words, cities with the warmth and charm of a village and the beauty of a hotel as Helen Pak, Disney’s Manager of Parks, Experience and Products, describes it. The first city, called Cotino, will be built in Rancho Mirage, in the Coachella Valley in California. Not far from where Walt Disney lived.

1,900 housing units will sprout around a 9-hectare oasis: villas, apartments, shops, restaurants, cinemas, entertainment… Everything to live on Disney time, all year round! A section of the development will be reserved for people aged 55 and over. Prices have not been announced, nor the availability of the first units. Disney also did not give a start date for the work.

The Disney group will call on partners for the actual construction, as well as for the day-to-day management of these communities. Moreover, the homes will not be sold directly by the company. This is not the first time that Disney has taken an interest in this activity: in 1996, it opened the doors of Celebration, in Florida, a project quite similar in idea but which has since suffered from problems with leaks and mold. away from Disney magic.
