To avoid an overdose among viewers, but also to better manage production costs, Disney has decided to lower the frequency of releases of new Marvel series on Disney+. These changes will apply from this year, with three shows finally shifted to 2024.
Slow down. This is the current watchword at Disney, in any case with regard to the releases of the Marvel series at Disney +. This trend was confirmed by Kevin Feige, the big boss of Marvel Studios, in February 2023. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the executive acknowledged the overflow of content, especially on phase 4 of the MCU, marked by an avalanche of series and films of varying quality (18 projects in total!).
“We want MCU projects to really stand out. So people will see that as we move through Phases 5 and 6, the pace at which we deliver Disney+ shows will change so they can each have a chance to shine.” he declared.
This interview with Kevin Feige was conducted shortly after comments from Disney CEO Bob Iger. The boss of the firm with big ears called in particular for better management of production costsand a focus on quality over quantity.
Three Marvel series shifted to 2024
This new direction for the company comes asAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has just landed in theaters this Wednesday, February 15, while season 3 of The Mandalorian should arrive on Disney + this March 1, 2023. According to Hollywood Reporter sources, only Loki season 2 and the Secret Invasion series, centered on Nick Fury, will be offered to Disney+ subscribers in 2023. Even projects that have already wrapped filming, such as Echo or IronHeart, have unlikely to come out this year. As for series in development like Nova, things will be slowed down.
