Disney+ unveils the trailer for its Theranos series

On January 4, Elisabeth Holmes was found guilty of fraud, including fraud against investors. The story of the founder of Theranos will be at the heart of a series broadcast on Disney+ next March.

At the beginning of the 2010s, the Theranos company promises to revolutionize medicine with its technology which was to make it possible to carry out inexpensive blood tests, and with only a few drops. Its founder, Elisabeth Holmes, managed to raise $700 million. In 2015, it was valued at over $9 billion. But in 2015, an investigative journalist reveals that this whole project is not what a big scam. Published in the Wall Street Journal, the investigation explains that Theranos does not use its own technology to perform blood tests and that the company has sought to hide the inconsistencies in the latter.

After years of investigations and a trial lasting several months, Elisabeth Holmes was found guilty last January of fraud and fraud against investors. On the other hand, she was acquitted of fraud against her patients. She is currently incurring up to 20 years in prison. Sentencing is due next September. A topical affair that will be the subject of a series on the Hulu platform, a bit like dopesick which aired on Disney+ last November.

To portray the main character, the Disney subsidiary recruits Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia). The actress will give the reply to Naveen Andrews, who will camp her companion Sunny Balwani. Utkarsh Ambudkar (Free Guy), Michael Ironside (Total Recall) and William H. Macy (Shameless) will also be there.

Behind the scenes, Taylor Dunn, Rebecca Jarvis and Victoria Thompson act as showrunners. The Dropout is adapted from ABC’s eponymous podcast. Michael Showalter (The Big Sick), Francesca Gregorini (Killing Eve) and Erica Watson (Snowpiercer) will feature several episodes of the mini-series which has 8 in total.

March 3 on Disney+

The arrival of Hulu in the ranks of Disney is definitely good. While the guideline of the platform is mainly family-oriented, the launch of the Star division in France allows it to offer more mature and ambitious series. This is how subscribers were able to discover dopesick, Only Murders in the Building and currently Pam & Tommy.

If on American soil, Hulu obtains exclusivity, the unavailability of the offer in our green regions allows the SVOD giant to add it to its platform under the Star label. Enough to increase these ranks and reach a new audience. The appointment is fixed at March 3 next with the first episode. Every Thursday, spectators will be able to discover a new chapter of this story inspired by real events, until the conclusion 7 weeks later.
