DJI has added the Mavic 3 Classic as a new member to its drone portfolio. The novelties of the sector leader are always interesting, although it is not exactly a new model but a variant of the current DJI Mavic 3.
The Mavic 3 Classic follows the growing trend of many electronics companies cutting out some features or hardware in exchange for a lower price. We just saw it today with the Huawei Pocket S folding smartphone, a variant of the P50 Pocket from the same manufacturer. What’s new from DJI comes to be the same in drones.
The Mavic 3 happens to be best consumer drone and with this in mind it is relatively easy to work on that base and specifically on its cameras. The new ‘classic’ version does not mount the second telephoto lens for close-ups, but still repeats the main Hasselblad L2D-20C sensor specialized in aerial photography (4/3 24mm CMOS, with 84-degree field of view, an aperture f / 2.8 to f / 11 and ISO ranges of 100 – 6400 for videos and still images) that ensures very good level shots.
For video, it offers multiple recording resolutions and frame rates, including 5.1K video up to 50 frames per second and 4K resolution video up to 120 frames per second. Of course, it has the DJI ActiveTrack 5.0 technology to increase tracking capabilitiesusing signals from GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou satellites to improve performance.
This quadcopter has a maximum flight time (no wind) of 46 minutes and a maximum hover time (no wind) of 40 minutes. It has a maximum rate of climb of 6m/s (P-mode) or 8m/s (high-performance “S” mode) and near sea level, with no wind, this drone can achieve a truly impressive maximum flight speed. of 21m/s.
The remote controller for the basic model is familiar from the previous model, but the higher version comes with a different and more advanced controller, DJI RC PRO, which has its own 5.5-inch touch screen that avoids having to use any smartphone of control and works with a version of Android customized by DJI. It features OcuSync 3.0 (1080p 60fps) image transmission technology capable of running at a truly impressive length of 15km.
Summarizing. Very similar to the awesome Mavic 3, but cheaper thanks to “cutouts”. Cheap doesn’t mean cheap, and the Mavic 3 Classic is still a high-end drone priced at $1,469. And from there if you buy additional kits with the remote control, additional batteries, propeller kit, car charger or carrying bag.
If you are looking for something cheaper to start with, we recommend the Mini 3 Pro as the direct successor to the DJI Mini 2 that we thoroughly reviewed and gained great experience from.
