Hand in hand with the presentation of the GeForce RTX 40, NVIDIA also surprised us with the presentation of DLSS 3the new iteration of its artificial intelligence-based superscaling technology, and which represents a formidable qualitative leap compared to its predecessor, DLSS 2, which, by itself, also represents a formidable performance improvement compared to what a system with this function not activated.
The only “but” that can be put to DLSS 3 is that only supports RTX 40 graphics cards. It is true that a story has circulated on the Internet about a user who claimed to have activated it on a GeForce of a previous generation by modifying a configuration file, but the truth is that he never provided proof of this, which added to the fact that the method that he claimed to have continued was somewhat doubtful, it gives him an absolutely minimal level of credibility.
So, and until the arrival of the most basic models of this new generation, for now it is only possible to enjoy the virtues of this technology if you have a GeForce RTX 4090 or, starting tomorrow, if you get a GeForce RTX 4080. A limited scope that, in theory, could have directly affected the speed with which developers decided to implement DLSS 3 in their titles. And I say that it would have made sense to have thought of it… but it would have been a mistake.
And we must remember that NVIDIA offers the technology, but it is the developers who must implement it, if they wish, in their titles. And yes, it is not lost on me that the technology company has good relations with the studios, but the fact that there is a fluid collaboration between the parties does not prevent developers from having to roll up their sleeves and get down to work. Something that, as we can see by looking at the list of compatible titles, seems to be happening at a very, very good pace.
And what does good rhythm mean? Let’s remember that the first model of the RTX 40 series, the GeForce RTX 4090, went on sale on October 12, while the GeForce RTX 4080 16GB will debut tomorrow in stores. Thus, when the month of November ends, we will be talking about only a month and a half of availability, a period that will close with no less than 42 games compatible with DLSS 3. This is the full list:
- A Plague Tale: Requiem
- Atomic Heart
- Black Myth: Wukong

So, as you can see, we already talked about a fairly wide selection of games prepared to take advantage of it to the functions of DLSS 3, both in improving the image and in functions as surprising and interesting as the generation of intermediate frames, doubling the frame rate in this mode without demanding greater performance from the processor, which on many occasions becomes in a bottleneck.
