Do you have an iPhone 6 Plus or iPad 4? They have already been declared obsolete.

One of Apple’s most iconic products is undoubtedly the iPhone 6 Plus, as it was the first to integrate a 5.5-inch screen that undoubtedly revolutionized this technological world. It seems like only yesterday that it was released, but a total of seven years have passed since it was released. Now it will become an obsolete Apple product this week, no longer having updates.

The equipment that becomes obsolete for Apple

The iPhone 6 Plus was released in September 2014 and was marketed for just two years. As well as having a giant screen, it was also the first device to support Apple Pay alongside its A8 chip. In addition, the camera and the rest of its components made it one of the best-selling devices of its time. And although it was released alongside the iPhone 6, it must be said that it undoubtedly cast a great shadow on its sibling.

And just like this iPhone 6 Plus, you also have to fire the 9.7-inch iPad 4 released in November 2014 and the Mac mini from the end of 2012. These two devices will also be considered obsolete by the company itself with the consequences that it may have in the future. And this is not something new, since they have ended up fulfilling all the requirements that are established. And if you’re imagining that the “normal” iPhone 6 also becomes obsolete, you’re wrong. This right now will continue due to a longer distribution when relaunched in 2017. In the future we will finally see how it also ends with the same fate.

What happens to these devices now?

If you currently own an iPhone 6 Plus or an iPad 4, you should know that absolutely nothing happens with them. You will be able to continue using them normally, but what will happen is that if something happens to them you will not be able to go to the technical service. Spare parts for this equipment will no longer be made, and you will have to choose to repair it unofficially or try your luck at a random shop.

Regarding updates, we must remember that the iPhone 6 Plus stopped receiving updates in 2019. From now on, it will only receive minor updates, especially focused on security, which is a fundamental aspect to take into account. This is something that we see today, since we have seen recent updates to iOS 12 or iOS 11 pSo these older devices stay protected.
