Do you like dinosaurs? here is your next movie crush

In line with Jurassic Park, Primitive War will immerse us in the heart of the Vietnam War alongside prehistoric creators

Who doesn’t love dinosaurs? Disappeared for 66 million years, these big beasts are still talking about them. Whereas Jurassic World will return for a third and final opus, another saga of the genre is preparing to invade our screens. According to The Hollywood ReporterLuke Sparke will adapt a science fiction literary saga, written by Ethan Pettus.

The filmmaker, to whom we owe Occupation: Rainfall, will bring this vast adventure of dinosaurs and soldiers from the Vietnam War to the big screen. The plot will plunge us into the climax of the confrontation, as a search and rescue team known as the Vulture Squad is sent to a remote valley in order to learn more about the fate of the missing platoon of green berets. They will discover with horror prehistoric creatures that will put their lives in danger. The only way for them to survive: surrender to their wild instincts to survive this primitive war.

In a press release, Luke Sparke explained that he was immediately enthusiastic about the idea. “Dinosaurs in the Vietnam War? How not to love this idea. When I first heard about the books, I loved the concept and how Ethan handled it. We are building our film version to be an exciting survival horror film.”

Towards a franchise?

For now, the project is still at an embryonic stage. Casting details have not been announced. Nevertheless, if success is there, Luke Sparke will have plenty of time to integrate his film into the heart of a vast franchise. Two volumes are already available, and a third is still in writing. What to establish itself as the reference after Jurassic Park ?

At least that’s what readers think. In his review of Geek Irelandjournalist Sean Markey has widely praised the merits of Primitive War, even calling it a worthy heir to Michael Crichton’s novels. “Although there has been much fictional dinosaur literature published in the meantime, it is fair to say that no other writer of paleo fiction who could come close to Crichton’s runaway success over the past thirty last years”.

It should be remembered, however, that since 2017, Primitive War has not been translated into French. To discover the first two volumes, it is therefore necessary to master the language of Shakespeare, unless this film pushes a French publishing house to finally offer them a French version.
