In the event that we are always bored with the same pointer or cursor every day, we can choose to incorporate the Apple mouse pointer. It is specifically the one used in the El Capitan version of its macOS operating system in 2015. For this we will use a pack of icons called precisely “El Capitan Cursor” and that will help us to give a different and personalized touch to the cursor of the mouse.
There are few users attracted by the aesthetics of Apple’s operating system, given its attractive and pleasant appearance. And there are people who would be delighted to mix the functionalities of the Microsoft operating system with the wonderful appearance with which Apple gives macOS its operating system for computers. But beyond changing the appearance of Windows with themes and skins, we can also change the mouse pointer to give it an appearance similar to its namesake used in Mac OS X El Capitan. This mouse cursor is compatible with all versions of Windows 10, both 32-bit and 64-bit.
Download and install El Capitan Cursor
The first step in order to install the Mac mouse cursor on our Windows computer is to download a small tool called “El Capitan Cursor”. For this we can access from this link. Once inside the page we must click on the download icon (with an arrow pointing down) that is in the central right part, as can be seen in the following image.
Once we click on it, the page will ask us to let’s register, in case we are not. Therefore, it will be mandatory to enter our name, date of birth and a valid email address, as it will send us an email that we must confirm to access the download. It is the tostón part without a doubt, but it is essential if we want to obtain the tool and it will not take us long.
Already registered and having confirmed the email that will be sent to us immediately, we will be able to start downloading the compressed ZIP file. This one, barely occupies 335 kb, so it should download in seconds. Once downloaded, we must unzip it with a compressor such as WiRAR, WinZip, PeaZip, etc., and it will reveal a folder. Inside we find the file «Install.inf«. Once located, we must click on it with the right of the mouse so that the Windows context menu appears, where we must choose the option “Install”. The installation will take place practically instantaneously, without any wizard or information window appearing.
How to change the Windows cursor to the macOS cursor
Once we have downloaded and installed “El Capitan Cursor”, we will automatically have it implanted among the different types of Windows 10 cursors. Now we only need to find it and activate it to be able to use it, a task that, as we will see, is also very simple.
Next, what we are going to do is access the Windows Control Panel, for which we will write “control panel” in the search box of the Start menu and select it. Once we have accessed, we go to the “View by” tab, located at the top right and select “small icons”. Once this is done, click on the section of “Mouse”.
Access the Pointers tab within Mouse Properties
Now a new window will appear in which we will find the «Mouse Properties». Here we must select the “Pointers” tab. Later, within the “Scheme” section, click to display the available list where we will find the option to Captain that we had previously installed, so we selected it. Once this is done, we will only have to click on Apply and we will automatically have the Windows cursor changed to the Mac cursor. We can also enable the shadow of the pointer by checking the corresponding box, so that we can attach a shading effect to the pointer of our mouse.
What’s more, This change will not only affect the cursor itself, but all the elements that usually appear when we use it, like the clock or when selecting text. In fact, in the “Customize” section, we can see the different mouse pointer icons that we enter according to the action at each moment accompanied by its corresponding icon. In this way we find:
- Normal selection
- Help selection
- Working in the background
- Selection with precision
- Text selection
- Vertical adjustment
- Horizontal adjustment
- Not available
- Diagonal adjustment 1
- Diagonal adjustment 2
- Alternative selection
- Link selection
- Select location
- Select person
Configure it from the Pointer Options
Once we have selected the El Capitan cursor we can choose to configure your options so that it is more comfortable for us to use. To do this, we must click on the “Pointer Options” tab. Here we can select the speed of movement of the pointer from fastest to slowest, looking for the perfect balance when unwrapping them with it. We can also apply to Automatically move pointer to default button in a dialog box. In addition to Show pointer trace, Hide pointer while typing, and Show pointer location when pressing CTRL key.
It may not be a radical change for many users, but many times it is the little things that change everything, and the mouse cursor is one of the most important little things out there. Not in vain are we seeing it all day.
