Boot Camp is software developed by Apple that allows you to have Windows or Linux installed on your Mac. It is undoubtedly a good tool with which you can have both operating systems on your Mac, but it is not compatible with all Apple computers. However, you will not be able to install macOS on Windows and in this post we will tell you why.
If you are one of those who wants to have Windows on a Mac, you can do it with Boot Camp. But before that you should know that your Mac must meet certain requirements to be one of the devices that can have Boot Camp. The Mac must have macOS X 10.6 or higher and updated firmware. One of the most important requirements is to have a Windows installation disc, be it Windows 7 or Windows 10 in order to install it correctly. Keep in mind that you do not have to have rEFIt installed, since having it installed, REFIt has been put as the first partition on the disk and this causes Boot Camp to not be able to run. If Boot Camp fails to run, the Windows Drivers CD cannot be created.
In addition to these, there are so many other requirements that are essential to be able to carry out the installation process and guarantee that there are no errors during it due to not being able to execute. You must have a Mac compatible with Windows 10. All computers, whether desktop or laptop, whose generation is 2012 or later are compatible. You will also have to follow these steps:
- Dispose of enough disk space to be able to create a partition with Boot Camp. The minimum size is 64 GB although Apple recommends at least 128 GB.
- Have a external keyboard and a mouse or trackpad in case you want to install on a desktop Mac.
- Have a empty usb flash drive with a capacity of at least 16 GB except if you own a 2015 MacBook Pro or later, 2015 MacBook Air or later, 2015 MacBook or later, 2015 iMac or later, iMac Pro, and 2013 Mac Pro.
As we mentioned earlier, not all Macs can have Boot Camp, so you won’t be able to install Windows this way. Macs that you won’t be able to install Windows on to a partition include Mac mini (Late 2020 with M1 chip), MacBook Air (Late 2020 with M1 chip), and MacBook Pro (Late 2020 with M1 chip).
Why it’s not possible?
One of the main reasons why you can’t install macOS on Windows with Boot Camp is that this software was developed by Apple thinking only to install Windows on a Mac, not to do it the other way around. Despite the fact that Windows and Apple have approached each other on several occasions in recent years, there is still no official way to perform this installation.
