Don’t worry, Microsoft promises that Call of Duty will continue on PlayStation

The news that has recently shaken the panorama of the gaming has been, without a doubt, the purchase of Activision Blizzard by the giant Microsoft. Apart from the rivers of virtual ink that have been spilled, the other side effect has been the joint hyperventilation of all Playstation users. The prospect of running out of your favorite titles on your favorite console has created controversy. If you are one of them, you can breathe again, Microsoft has confirmed that at least Call of Dutywill still be available. We tell you all the details about the subject and the possible nuances that this may have.

At the end of January 2022 the news broke. Microsoft itself officially announced the acquisition of Activision, one of the main game creators.

That implies that legendary sagas of the gaming What Call of Duty, Devil, star craft and above all, candy crush (we forget that King is in the package), they are already from the redmond giant.

And this has caused many PlayStation users to tremble, because they have once tasted the bitter taste of xbox exclusivesthat is to say, spectacular titles that are only for the Microsoft console.

Call of Duty and Activision’s main sagas will continue for PlayStation

Activision sagas on Xbox

In the face of the commotion, Microsoft itself has made an official announcement on his blog about it of the status of Activision’s major franchises and whether or not they will remain for all consoles.

And it seems, we can breathe easy… more or less.

In their official blog they have literally announced the following:

First, some have wondered if popular content like Activision’s Call of Duty will continue to be offered on competing platforms like Sony’s PlayStation. The obvious concern is that Microsoft could make this title available exclusively on the Xbox console, taking opportunities away from users of Sony’s PlayStation.

To be clear, Microsoft will continue to make Call of Duty and other popular Activision Blizzard titles available on PlayStation during the term of any existing agreement with Activision. And we have made a commitment to Sony that we will also make them available to PlayStation beyond the existing agreement and into the future so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love. We are also interested in taking similar steps to support Nintendo’s successful platform. We think it’s the right thing to do for the industry, for players and for our business.

So, for now, it seems that we can calm down, although there are several phrases that do not inspire so much confidence for the future.

To begin with, at least we know that fans of Call of Duty they are covered. The rest of popular titles to which they refer they have not been specified in that postnor are the exact terms of the Microsoft-Activision deal known.

However, it seems that at least the intention is that they are now and in the future. Whether that means future titles in the series will be there, too, is unclear from the official announcement.

Call of Duty: Vanguard

We don’t know if they refer only to already available titles that will be in the future or future titles that will also be available. A mess as always in contracts, where the fine print is what counts.

In the same way, there is no mention of a specific time horizon. It’s forever? One year, two? What does Microsoft consider that future to be? At the moment, and until the specific terms of the agreement are better known, it is not known exactly what has been signed.

Let us hope that Microsoft complies and, above all, that they do not calculate, after that future, that it is more profitable for them to have exclusive Activision titles than to sell them to PlayStation users. But for now, we can continue to blow up our friends in the Call of Duty.
