While Sega has recently announced the return of Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio soon, another cult title is making headlines on the web. If you are an experienced gamer, you must know Duke Nukem Forever. The title originally developed by 3D Realms (before being taken over by Gearbox Software) is part of the most famous Arles women in video games. For good reason, we had to wait 14 years old to lay hands on Duke Nukem Forever in 2011.

Unsurprisingly, the title was a cruel disappointment for fans and press alike. The game paid for its chaotic development, with outdated design, narration, graphics and gameplay mechanics, a thousand miles from the quality standard of the time. Nevertheless and before leaving in this infernal development, the 3D Realms teams showed off a promising version of their work at E3 2001.

The creator of the Duke confirms the authenticity of the extracts

This version of the game was thought to have been permanently removed after team changes and multiple project overhauls. However, a hacker called “xOr” has just stream images and gameplay footage from this build on 4Chan. He assures us that these are indeed extracts from this version presented by 3D Realms at the international video game fair in 2001.

Gerard Broussard, creator of Duke Nukem and lead project lead for most of Forever’s development, confirmed on Twitter that the pictures were authenticwhile specifying however that he does not particularly want to stir up the memories of this painful time.

In the extracts, we can see in particular the Duke evolving in a strip club in the grip of a fire. FPS obliges, the most politically incorrect hero of the JV unsolders dozens of SWAT or special forces members. We also notice the presence of an EGO meter which fills up when he kills enemies, while we quickly see the weapon selection screen. xOr assures that it is in possession of the source code of this version of the gameas well as the game’s level editor. He intends to distribute them on the web to make them available to fans in June 2022. As a reminder, the cult games Max Payne 1 and 2 will be the subject of a remake shortly.
