Dune: the film will be shown in world premiere at the Venice Film Festival 2021

Confirmation arrived a few hours ago that Dunes, the long-awaited film based on the novel of the same name by Frank Herbert and directed by Denis Villeneuve, long postponed due to the pandemic and the desire not to “waste” a colossal of this caliber with video streaming services, will officially debut at the film festival in Venice 2021.

The 78th International Film Festival of the Biennale di Venice 2021, directed by Alberto Barbera, which we remember will be held from 1 to 11 September, will therefore be an opportunity to preview the film which, however, will remain out of competition.

The screening will take place on 3 September next.

Set on the planet Arrakis, we find ourselves exploring the story of two warring galactic royal families, the House of Atreides and the House of Harkonnen. When Duke Leto Atreides is assassinated, his son Paul and wife Jessica escape only to be saved by the Fremen, who become Paul’s personal army against the Harkonnen as they develop powers from the spice, a substance that extends life and makes possible the interstellar travel. A tangled web of royal intrigue is revealed as the Emperor and other cosmic powers attempt to wipe out the house of Atreides.

The protagonist will be Timothée Chalamet, in the role of Paul Atreides. Her mother, Lady Jessica, will be played by Rebecca Ferguson. Duke Leto will have the face of Oscar Isaac, flanked by loyal Gurney Halleck and Duncan Idaho played by Josh Brolin is Jason Mamoa. Zendaya instead it will be Chani, a mysterious Fremen girl who will capture Paul’s interest; the girl’s Fremen tribe will be led by Javier Bardem, in the guise of Stilgar. The main antagonists will be Stellan Skarsgård, the evil Baron Harkonnen, and Dave Bautista, in the guise of his nephew Rabban.

Denis Villeneuve he directed Dunes and co-wrote the script with Jon Spaihts ed Eric Roth, based on the novel of the same name written by Frank Herbert. The film is produced by Mary Parent, Denis Villeneuve, Cale Boyter is Joe Caracciolo, Jr. Executive producers are Tanya Lapointe, Joshua Grode, Herbert W.
