Dynabook leaves Europe and poses an uncertain future in Spain

Next April will be the last in which Dynabook operate in Spain. The manufacturer, which used to belong to Toshiba, has announced that it is withdrawing as part of a restructuring of the European business, but that it will continue to support buyers and partners.

As reported by Dynabook, the cessation of activity in Spain has to do with the drop in the PC business. “Market conditions and the economic environment in the EMEA region continue to be particularly challenging and many analysts expect this situation to continue through the remainder of 2023.”

As a result, Dynabook has started a restructuring process that directly affects the local business. “The result of this strategy is that sales operations in Spain under the current business model will be discontinued and, as a result, Dynabook’s offices in Spain will close at the end of April 2023,” they explain.

Thus, the subsidiary, which will open in Spain in 2020, will close its doors. Still, the company insists that it will support and service current buyers and partners and honor existing warranty obligations. He will do it from Asia.

One more casualty in the PC crisis

After the splendid years of the pandemic where sales were spectacular, 2022 put the technology sector back on the ground. Macroeconomic conditions began to be a drag on demand, which plummeted in many sectors, especially consumption.

According to Context figures for all of 2022, sales in Spain of mobile devices in the volume area fell by -8.5% and although desktop devices increased their demand by 6.5%, it was not enough to stop the bleeding.

Globally, 2022 closed with a decline in global PC sales of 28% in its year-on-year rate, according to IDC calculations. Europe, especially marked by the invasion of Ukraine and price inflation, took one of the worst parts in terms of business decline.

Despite the fact that 2023 has started in the same way, it seems that the situation will improve. The predictions suggest that by the end of the year the PC market will recover with a view to full stabilization in 2024.
