As you know, faced with the current energy crisis, the government has called on the French on several occasions to adopt certain simple measures to reduce their electricity consumption. In the event of overvoltages on the networks, power cuts may be operated by the RTE, the Electricity Transmission Network.

Moreover, a recent decree allows the RTE to impose on Enedis the shutdown of the Linky meters of the most energy-consuming households. A framework has however been set, since these cuts cannot exceed two hours, and must imperatively take place between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

But obviously, the French have taken their responsibilities by changing their habits. According to the latest figures shared by EDF this Thursday, December 8, 2022, the electricity consumption of the energy supplier’s customers fell by 10% in November 2022 compared to 2021.

Electricity consumption drops by 10% thanks to the efforts of the French

EDF data confirms this trend highlighted by the RTE. Indeed, a few days ago, the Electricity Transmission Network announced a significant drop of 8.3% in consumption in December compared to the average for this period between 2014 and 2019.

Going back to EDF’s announcement, the company specifies that this figure concerns all its customers, individuals as well as companies and tertiary sectors. This represents millions of French people, since EDF supplies two-thirds of households and more than half of French companies. “We have a notable decrease which responds to the stimulations which have been made by the government which has asked for a sobriety plan for all the actors, and which responds to the advice that we have given to our customers to reduce their consumption ”, declared Marc Benayoun, Executive Director of the EDF group in charge of the Customers, Services & Territories division on the air of FranceInfo.

In addition, EDF highlights a significant increase in the number of users on the EDF application and me, which provides a detailed view of personal consumption. Thus, it is now consulted by 7 to 9 million customers. Since January 2022, we are at 140 million connections. This represents double compared to 2021.
