Electric bikes: the purchase aid of the city of Paris is no longer accessible to all

Bad news for Parisians who were considering buying an electric bike. Indeed and from October 15, 2022, the town hall modifies its conditions for the allocation of purchase aid. We explain to you what changes.

As you probably know, the State and local authorities offer several purchase aids to encourage the French to acquire an electric bike. If you live in Paris, it is even possible to take advantage of several bonuses simultaneously.

Indeed, you can claim state aid set at €300 (if your taxable income is less than €13,489), but also the bonus offered by Ile-de-France Mobilités (maximum 50% of the price of purchase including VAT within the limit of €500 for an electric bike) without forget the aid from the city of Paris.

However, we have just learned that the town hall of the capital is preparing to change the conditions of attribution of its purchase aid for an electric bicycle. As of October 15, 2022, this aid will henceforth be subject to a ceiling of resources, namely an annual reference tax income of less than €6,300. Until now, there were no income conditions.

The city of Paris reserves its purchase aid for the most modest incomes

The objective is to support the mobility of the least privileged people as a priority (a resource ceiling is set) and the most fragile people (people with reduced mobility)”. writes the city of Paris on its website.

This will be the sine qua num condition for recover 33% of the purchase price excluding tax of the bicycle or an electrification system, up to a limit of €400. Regarding the acquisition of a cargo bike or an electrically assisted scooter, the amount of aid will be set at 33% of the purchase price with a ceiling of €600. Note that the Marie de Paris has unveiled new mobility aids. The town hall offers for example:

  • an aid of 100% of the purchase price capped at €100 for the purchase of a classic bicycle
  • an aid of 33% of the purchase price excluding VAT for the purchase of a trailer to transform a classic bicycle into a cargo, capped at €100
  • Participation in a cycle learning course or getting back in the saddle carried out by an approved organisation. The amount of aid is set at 100% of the purchase price excluding tax with a ceiling of €60.
  • Discovery of Mobilib shared mobility services. The amount of the aid is set at 100% of the purchase price excluding tax of usage credit with a ceiling of €100

People with disabilities will still be able to benefit from purchasing assistance without income restrictions beyond October 15, 2022. In detail, the amount is also set at 33% of the purchase price excluding VAT, with a consequent ceiling of €900.
