Electric cars: manufacturers broke all sales records in June 2022

This is the big trend in the automotive market: electric cars are making a strong impression on consumers. So much so that these vehicles had their best monthly sales in June 2022, with nearly one million new vehicles registered. Never had this market experienced such enthusiasm and similar profits.

This is not a hoax: the electric cars have just taken a new step in their democratization, despite the increase in vehicle prices. For the month of June 2022 alone, almost 913,479 models have been registered. It’s the monthly sales record for rechargeable vehicles since they exist. In order to understand this leap forward, let us specify that this score represents more than twice the sales made in the same period a year ago.

This is perhaps the sign which attests that the milestone of one million purchases per month is no longer as out of reach as it once was. This 54% increase in sales in 12 months is all the more surprising given that the automobile market has been struggling since the war in Ukraine. Hybrid cars, meanwhile, have seen declining sales since March 2022.

Electric cars are on the rise with historic monthly sales

It was a month of June with 100% deconfinement which allowed manufacturers to boost sales of their electric cars. In France alone, there are 14,000 new registrations : a historical figure. A positive assessment certainly, even if close to 40% of sales on French soil are to the credit of the Renault ZOE. Another interesting figure: it should be noted that electric cars constitute 5.8% of registrations in France for June.

Also in June, the plug-in hybrid hits hard and does better than all cumulative sales in the first half of 2019. Another evocative data, in just 6 months, nearly 4.1 million electric cars have already been sold in 2022. At this rate, by September, sales will surpass those of 2021 and its record of 6.5 million registrations.

Not surprisingly, the global ranking of plug-in electric cars is dominated by Tesla with its Model Y and Model 3. If the Tesla remains unbeatable, nothing is yet acquired for the pursuers. The battle will therefore be fierce, even if brands like Volkswagen, SAIC-GM-Wuling and BYD are in a favorable tie. We will also have to watch out for outsiders like Mercedes, Kia and CAG, which certainly have some nice surprises in store for us.
