My experience with the Vivo Y70 after a month

The Vivo Y70 is a mid-range mobile that knows very well what its weapons are to conquer you. And this device is capable of making you fall in love from the first glance, thanks to its slim and very stylish design and its AMOLED-type screen that dazzles on the front . In addition, it incorporates a 4,100 milliamp battery that offers good performance on a day-to-day basis and has a set of technical characteristics that will not leave you stranded, although it is below other competitors in the same price range. It is also not the mid-range model with the best photographic set, especially due to the lack of a wide-angle sensor to improve photos of buildings and landscapes. All in all, it is a very attractive bet that you can find on the market for an approximate price of 300 euros .

A very attractive design

It must be recognized. The Vivo Y70 has one of the designs that I have liked the most in recent times. And that the company has chosen to use plastic in its construction, a trend that seemed almost banished in the market. But it does it in a very successful way, since the polymer it uses simulates glass very convincingly without being so. This mobile stands out for being very thin and stylish, with a thickness of 7.83 millimeters. The back is curved to give it a more premium touch and facilitate the grip, and picks up reflections to create the sensation of changing hue as you move it. Speaking of tonality, we have it in two colors: Space Black and Ice Blue. In my case, I have been able to test the black setting. And what about the footprints? In this color the truth is that it does not work wonders to avoid them, but since it is not completely mirror they are quite hidden.

What I like most about its design is undoubtedly the feel to the grip of the Vivo Y70, which is very pleasant. Handling it with one hand is comfortable at all times and it is appreciated that it is so light, 171 grams. Normally the equipment of the same screen format moves closer to 200 grams and above all they are thicker. As usual, the camera module protrudes from the housing but without exaggeration. As for the front, the screen uses just over 90% of the space and the front camera is placed in central notch format, although it does not take up too much space from the panel.

Good size AMOLED screen

Another of the strengths of the Vivo Y70 is its screen . We are facing a AMOLED-type panel with a size of 6.44 inches and a Full HD + resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. On a personal level, it seems to me a technology that It always offers an experience one point better than that of IPS panels, both in terms of vividness of colors and in black reproduction and tactile experience. The company wanted to highlight that it has a dynamic contrast of 2,000,000: 1, a value that serves to indicate its quality when dealing with dark scenes. Of course, one of the features that we do not find here is an improvement in the refresh rate. Seeing as we have a few competitors who already bet on panels of 90Hz or more, this improvement is missing to enjoy smoother transitions between menus and when playing games.

Average technical set

Here we have lights and shadows on the Vivo Y70. It is very surprising that the company has reinforced this terminal with a RAM of 8 GB , a capacity more typical of the top teams. On a practical level, this means that we can have many processes open at the same time without stopping. But the part that shines less comes when we combine it with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor. This chip has eight cores and a clock speed of 2 GHz, and is intended for the mid-range, but without standing out. In fact, you notice from time to time a stop in games that are more demanding. But in general day-to-day performance it does its job without a hitch. Speaking of games, the mobile phone incorporates a game mode that appears when we open any title and that allows us to prioritize resources so that the game goes better. Also included is a curious option to place a floating WhatsApp screen above the game . I do not see it completely practical, but it is curious and for some it will serve to continue chatting with their contacts while playing.

What I did like the most is its internal memory, which is 128 GB. A more than enough capacity to be able to save images and videos without having to worry about space for a while. In the event that it falls short, we also have the option of expanding it through a microSD card. The configuration of the Vivo Y70 allows us to vary between two nanoSIM type cards or one card plus the microSD.

A photographic set without great fanfare

Regarding the photographic section , the Vivo Y70 meets what is expected of a mid-range mobile but without being its strong point. At the rear we find a set of three sensors. The main one has a resolution of 48 megapixels with a focal aperture of f / 1.8. That is, it is bright enough to cope with night photos. In fact, one of the most pleasant surprises I’ve had at this point is its good performance in low-light scenes. The sensor is capable of capturing quite a bit of light. Although you can immediately notice some noise, it is quite controlled and you do not have that feeling from other cameras that colors are being invented to offer you a brighter photo. To obtain images with more detailed colors, it uses by default the technology that combines four pixels in one with 12 megapixel images. You also have an advanced function to shoot photos at 48 megapixels.

Vivo Y70 Photo Gallery

The second sensor is the macro type, with a resolution of 2 megapixels. This type of sensors is used to be able to take detailed photos. It must be said. It is no wonder. In order for it to give you interesting results, you need to have good light conditions, because as soon as there is some darkness you start to notice a lot of noise. The third of the sensors is the bokeh. In this case, it helps you achieve blur effects. For the object or person to whom we are going to apply the effect to work correctly, it must be at a maximum distance of two meters from the camera. Then I did like that you can vary the focus in different parts of the image after taking the photo, which will give you more play. As for the results, again they have left me some doubts, since it does not always capture in the best way which is the first plane and which is the second.

The app that Vivo has included to take advantage of the cameras of the Vivo Y70 is simple and quite clear. You have a carousel at the bottom to switch between the different main modes, including photo, night mode, portrait, video and other modes. Be careful, keep in mind that portrait mode does not use the bokeh-type lens by default. It simply gives you parameters to enter beauty filters and recognize faces. To activate this bokeh or macro sensor, you have to press on the small lens button in the corner and then choose the type. This point I did not like the interface. It could have been made clearer with separate modes or with some other type of more striking control.

As for the rest of the available modes, among the most curious is one to play with stickers in augmented reality and place them within the real world. We also have a pro mode without big surprises with parameters such as white balance or ISO value.

Video recording has a maximum resolution of 4K at 30fps, but you have to bear in mind that by default the resolution is marked at 1080p. This can be at 60fps to get more fluid images. We also have the typical fast-motion and slow-motion modes, but these must be accessed through the “more” option within the mode carousel.

What has surprised me the most For the good of this photographic set is its front camera for selfies with a resolution of 16 megapixels. That “beauty” effect that is usually included here is almost always lighter and the images are defined. Above all, I liked its performance in low light conditions. The screen lights up around the area of your face to function more like a small spotlight than a flash. And the result is quite remarkable for the price range in which we are moving with this Vivo Y70.

Good autonomy and fast charging

In the field of autonomy, the Vivo Y70 includes a 4,100 milliamp battery. In my experience, the mobile phone optimizes this battery very well, which is combined with the use of an AMOLED screen to give you a autonomy that easily goes beyond the day of use . It is also true that this equipment is not very powerful and that helps to increase the hours of use. In addition, I really liked that it includes compatibility with fast charging of up to 33W, which will allow us to charge the equipment faster and be able to work several hours with it with only a few minutes plugged in.

Price and opinions

The Vivo Y70 is now available in stores for a price of 300 euros. In short, it is a mobile that leaves a very good taste in the mouth in two fundamental aspects: the screen, which has AMOLED technology, and its design. This one deserves a separate mention because despite the use of plastic in its construction, the Vivo Y70 has a really premium look that never leaves you feeling like a cheap device. The colors chosen also seem like a success to me, since the fingerprints are not so visible and the reflections produced by the case are quite attractive. In short, we are facing a model that knows what it plays well and is a good letter of introduction for Vivo, a brand that promises to give a lot of war in the coming years.
