Elon Musk donates $5.7 billion to charity

The billionaire and eccentric owner of Tesla does not keep his tickets in his pocket.

The information has just been made public, and it would almost make us forget the accusations of animal abuse that Elon Musk is currently facing. Last November, a new SEC filing reports, the American billionaire is said to have donated nearly $5.7 billion to charity. The name of the latter has not been specified, but it is a safe bet that it is the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), with which the businessman had already spoken about social networks.

Elon Musk finally keeps his promises

Remember last October, World Food Program Director David Beasley said in an interview with CNN that only 2% of Elon Musk’s wealth could eradicate world hunger. Apostrophized on Twitter, the principal concerned had then launched a challenge to the WFP: if the association was able to detail precisely how this money would be used, it would part with 6 billion dollars of Tesla shares to donate it to him.

No sooner said than done. On November 16, a specific action plan was made public. The latter, in addition to explaining how Elon Musk’s fortune could be used, promised to permanently save 42 million people in need. Three days later, Elon Musk recorded his first charitable transfer, up to 2.2 billion dollars. Until the end of the month, there were then five other transfers which followed one another, for a total amount of 5.7 billion dollars.

For its part, the world food program did not confirm the rumors. Asked by Business Insider, a spokesperson for the organization simply indicated that it preferred to leave this formalization to its donors. Doubt seems unlikely given the situation. However, some do not exclude that the beneficiary of this generous donation is actually the Musk foundation. Property of the billionaire, the multidisciplinary organization notably supports research on renewable energies, space exploration, pediatric research and the development of “ethical” artificial intelligence.

Regardless of the amount of his generous donations, Elon Musk remains the richest man in the worldwith an estimated net worth of $227 billion, according to the site Bloomberg.
