This April 7, 2022, Elon Musk made an appointment with Tesla fans for a brand new conference dedicated to the brand’s future products. The billionaire himself held the reins of the Tesla Cyber Rodeo. The opportunity for him to return to several projects, in particular the CyberTruck, the production of which has been confirmed for 2023.

The boss of SpaceX also lingered on the Tesla Bot Optimus, a robot whose ambition is to “revolutionize our society”. Here again, the start of production is announced for 2023. In other words, no human intervention will be required. Unfortunately, Elon Musk was rather stingy in detail on the subject. However, as relayed by our colleagues from the Electrek site, the CEO gave more details on these autonomous robotaxis during the recent conference call with investors dedicated to Tesla’s financial results for the 1st quarter of 2022:

We’re also working on a new vehicle that I alluded to at the grand opening of the Gigafactory in Texas, which is a dedicated robotaxi. It will be highly optimized for autonomy – meaning it will have no steering wheel or pedals. There are a number of other innovations around it that I think are quite exciting,” explains the potential future owner of Twitter.

He also adds that the vehicle will have a lower cost per kilometer than a bus ticket. This is an important notion for Elon Musk, who already in 2019 mentioned particularly aggressive prices for future robotaxi journeys, namely 18 cents per mile. According to him, Tesla’s autonomous robotaxi will be officially presented in 2023 for entry into production the following year. It remains to be seen whether the billionaire will indeed respect his schedule.
