Elon Musk teases the arrival of X, his “all-in-one” social network based on Twitter

Elon Musk no longer hides his ambitions to create his own social network and above all the desire to revolutionize the sector. In response to several of his Twitter followers, the billionaire explained that the platform will be inspired by Chinese WeChat, which offers features as diverse as content sharing, gaming and means of payment.

Elon Musk

We’re not immune to Elon Musk changing his mind (again), but for now, the billionaire seems finally set on buying Twitter. The news was announced yesterday in a letter sent to shareholders, after the start of a juicy legal battle that caused much ink to flow this summer. It must be said that the billionaire made us see all the colors, from his staggering offer of 44 billion euros to his stories of bots hidden by management.

So is it the prospect of being forced to pay 1 billion dollars to Twitter that convinced Elon Musk, or his other more ambitious projects? Indeed, during the summer, the businessman had already vaguely announced his desire to launch his own social network. This would take over the domain name X .com, from the online bank founded years ago by the billionaire, which later became PayPal.

The takeover of Twitter, a springboard for Elon Musk

In recent days, Elon Musk has wanted to be more vocal on the subject with his Twitter subscribers. Thus, when one of them asks him why he finally decided to buy Twitter, the person concerned replies that the social network is “an accelerator to realize the original vision of X.com”. A statement that he has also reiterated several times, adding that the transaction could advance the release date of X .com by 3 to 5 years.

So what is this vision that Elon Musk is talking about? The boss of Tesla has already discussed his project with Twitter employees, taking in particular the example of the Chinese social network Wechat. “There is no equivalent of Wechat outside of China… You basically live on Wechat in China. If we can recreate that with Twitter, we will have great success”he explained.

In other words, Elon Musk could create a new kind of social network in the West, combining traditional content sharing with payment or even gaming functionalities. In addition, the billionaire could take inspiration from the algorithm of TikTok, of which he has already sung the praises and which could make Twitter “much better at notifying users of serious issues.”
