EmprendES, a new alliance to promote entrepreneurship through various private initiatives

The recent celebration of the South Summit brought with it the launch of Undertakean alliance that brings together 31 managers from Private Initiatives to Support Entrepreneurship (IAEs) in Spain. The initiative was born with the aim of being a single voice that represents the sector, its interests and its challenges to generate a relationship with the national and regional administration that facilitates incentives for actors in the ecosystem and positions the IAEs as a key player in the entrepreneurial path. .

EmprendES has presented the first pilot study on the state of Entrepreneurship Support Initiatives, which has mapped organizations throughout the Spanish territory. From the data it appears that there is a socioeconomic gapsince 59% of IAEs do not support entrepreneurs with incomes of less than 20,000 euros per year.

In addition, in general there are more enterprises led by men than by women: 77% of the initiatives supported by the IAEs do not have parity in their members. “The main challenges that the IAEs face are the economic viability of the ventures promoted, the limited capital and the lack of knowledge that exists about the services offered by the IAEs”pointed out Irene Milleiro, director of Ashoka Spain.

In the coming months, EmprendES is going to launch the second phase of the study and will have the support of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), the largest study carried out since 1999 worldwide on entrepreneurship. «We want to meet with state, regional and municipal public bodies, as well as associations and private bodies that have a voice in the business fabric. We want to share our proposals with all of them»said Antonio González, CEO of Impact Hub.

Incentives, legal framework and alliances

EmprendES focuses its requests on three areas of interest, arising from the information collected in the study: improve incentives for entrepreneurs, investors and IAEs; generate a legal framework that adapts to the current needs of the market and promote alliances and dissemination. “It is necessary that the figure of the IAEs be recognized in the Startups Law, as well as incorporate the legal figure of the Social Enterprise or Company with a purpose”highlighted Sara Simón, director of Youth Business Spain.

“We are convinced that only the alliance of all the actors that support the entrepreneurial initiative will achieve better regulation, greater incentives, and recognition of the importance of this ecosystem for the Spanish economy”commented Manuel Lencero, CEO of UnLimited Spain, one of the driving members of EmprendES.

The event, moderated by Pablo Santaeufemia, CEO of Bridge for Billions and founding member, was supported by Francisco Polo, High Commissioner for Spain Entrepreneurial Nation. Polo highlighted the need for a single voice that would unite all the entrepreneurial support initiatives in our country to achieve a public-private partnership more effective and that contributes to giving more support to the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
