Facebook and Snapchat are convinced that TikTok is an example to follow for social networks

On the occasion of their respective financial reports, Facebook and Snapchat both referred to TikTok as a true example to follow. The Chinese social network has indeed invaded the market in the past two years, and its competitors have no choice but to offer similar features so as not to lose their users.

The history of social networks seems to be an eternal beginning. With each newcomer who revolutionizes the market, the rest are forced to copy it. Instagram created a surprise in 2017 by integrating the same Stories system as Snapchat. Today, it’s TikTok’s turn to shake up habits and forcing leaders to adapt. This is how Instagram recently put the emphasis on Reels, at the risk of displeasing older users, and which Snapchat offers from Spotlights.

It must be said that the threat is real for the giants of the sector, while TikTok became the most visited site in the world at the end of 2021, dethroning Google in passing. The social network is also the most downloaded application on Android and iOS of the year. It is therefore urgent to react for competition, and Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel seems to be well aware of that. During its financial report for the last quarter, the firm notably underlined the enthusiasm of its users for its latest format inspired by its Chinese rival.

The format of TikTok videos invades social networks

“This is a continuation of the trend we have seen throughout the pandemic, and Stories posting and views per daily active user have not returned to pre-pandemic levels”said Evan Spiegel. “While we are hopeful that our community will one day return to watching Stories as we observed before the pandemic, we are focused on innovation in our content offerings to better serve our community today. »

The CEO does not reveal more about the content formats in question, but it is easy to imagine that the idea is to continue to take inspiration from TikTok. In addition, the latter also noted that some Snapchat creators already have recurring series on the platform. For his part, Mark Zuckerberg is obliged to establish the same observation, explaining that “People have a lot of choices about how they want to spend their time, and apps like TikTok are growing very quickly”. Meta’s financial record has been disappointing to say the leastposting a loss of one million users and a 23% drop in its share price.
