Facebook officially changes its name to Meta

During the annual developer event this Thursday, October 28, Mark Zuckerberg, president of Facebook, announced that the company will officially change its name to Meta, with the aim of promoting virtual reality.

During the Connect event, Zuckerberg explained his vision for what the company has dubbed a “metaverse”, a 100 percent digital parallel reality to which he wants Meta to allocate a large part of its investments in the coming years.

The founder of the technology giant, accused of favoring economic benefits over human welfare by a complainant and several legislators, explained to the developers that he chose the name “Meta” to express that the company still has “a lot to build”.

When users doubt whether the famous applications that are owned by the company will also change their name, Zucerkberg said that Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp will continue to be called like this, because today brands are already positioned among consumers.

What will happen from the announcement this Thursday, basically is that the company will be divided, since one part will include social applications as we know them (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger), and the other will encompass the platforms of the future (metaverse and Quest).

What is the metaverse?

During the Facebook Connect event, Zuckerberg explained that the company will bet on virtual reality, so the metaverse is the future of social connections. It is a project that includes everyone and helps them socialize, learn, collaborate and play in a kind of parallel reality supported by technology, which will serve to bring those who are far closer together.

Far from continuing to interact only with the screen, in this virtual world promoted by the Zuckerber company, it will be possible to carry out practically any activity with virtual reality devices, augmented reality glasses and some applications, thus making it a 3D space where you can live together every day.
