Disney+ caused controversy recently for censoring certain violent and bloody passages from the Falcon and the Winter Soldier series. Finally, the platform reversed its decision. The scenes concerned have been reinstated in their original editing.

As you may know, Disney has been controversial on several occasions, notably with several decisions made on its Disney+ streaming service. We remember, for example, the censorship of certain cult cartoons of the firm with big ears, deemed racist or offensive by the thinking heads of the group.

In the same vein, the platform also displays awareness messages on the fact sheets of certain animated films and cartoons that present racist clichés, such as Aladdin, Dumbo or Lady and the Tramp. Recently, Reddit users noticed that Disney secretly modified some bloody and violent scenes from the series Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

The main changes have been made to certain passages of episode 3, and in particular an action scene that takes place on the docks. During this confrontation, Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier impales an opponent with a pipe. In the original montage, it is obviously crossed right through by the projectile, finding itself on the way nailed to a container. Only, this end was obviously too violent for the firm.

Disney: simply an editing error

On the new mount, no more impalement or blood. The pipe, which is thrown with the same speed, merely knocks the opponent down and bounces off him. Unsurprisingly, fans quickly cried out for censorship. However, Disney has just reacted to the controversy. Visibly, this new edit was unintentionalbut was due “to a software control problem” accidental.

The company said in the aftermath that the original editing would be restored shortly. We checked on the French version of Disney +, and the first cut has indeed returned. As a reminder, Disney recently removed two films that were too “adult” and mistakenly added to its catalog, namely Hot Shot! and Hot Shots 2!, the two cult comedies starring Charlie Sheen.
